Hello Everyone,

I am Joshua. I am 25 and I am about to graduate with a BA in Latin American Studies from UC Berkeley. I grew up in a small town on the coast of California. My parents were hippies who ran away from their respective churches in their twenties. I grew up in a town that shunned religion and affirmed the virtues of cultural relativity. Mix and match, that was the best way to find your sprituality.

I never found it though. Up until about a year and half ago I had lived a life that from the outside that was probably enviable. But, on the inside something was amiss. I knew that there had to be something more but I didn't even have the confidence to search for it. Luckily, it found me. Last summer I reluctantly came with my girlfriend to the Center of Light in Oakland, a school and community of Christian Mysticism. Her mom had been part of the community for awhile in Seattle.

My first experiences were confusing at best. I felt the immense Love and integrity of the priests that ran the center. But, I was put off by the pictures of Jesus and Mary that were on the walls. I had grown up around adults that didn't think highly of Christianity. For me, Jesus and Chrisitianty were synonymous. Despite my critical mind telling me otherwise I kept coming, partly to save my relationship, partly because I knew these people had something firgured out that I didn't, and mostly because my heart pushed there.

Soon I met Father Peter Bowes. He was the first person I ever met that I truly could not put in a box. He defied all my ideas of who people were and how they should act. I felt oddly at ease with him and at the same time I felt extremely vulnerable. I knew that he could see right through me. At first, I wanted to gain his admiration in my worldly ways. I made jokes, laughed at his, and sought to impress him with my wit. He was gracious but I wasn't charming him like I could others. I remember the first time he tested me by asking me something somewhat personal. I made a quick joke in order to avoid my uncomfortableness. He was unmoved. I couldn't run. I couldn't hide. He saw right through me. That was just the beginning.

Father Peter is a true Master Teacher. I know this for sure. He knows how to bring people in relationship with God. He knows how to lead a Spiritual Community. Having been part of this community for over 18 months and now living in the Oakland center I can testify to the amazing amount of healing that I have seen here. People really transform. People really let go and let god. Potheads turn into active, selfless, dynamic beings. Egoic chauvinists turn into humble servants. Spineless pushovers gain the gift of power and love. Handless maidens co-create. This is not hype. This is Love. This is a real path. It is Spiritual graduate school. It is for people who want to klck it into high gear. It is for people who want to change as much as they can in this lifetime in order to be in tune with God's will. There is something so much greater than our minds, our thoughts, and our pride. Here are real teachers who will love you all the way to real relationship with God. And it is nothing like what your mind says it is. Let go of your fears. Let go of your concepts. Real inner peace is possible. The Spiritual Path is the greatest rebellion you can ever manifest. It is the rebellion against the mind of the world that does not believe real love exists.

A warm hello to all who visit this pod. I am Alluvja and I've been here on Gaia since last March and am really enjoying the wonders of the place and the openings to share with each other, that which lies in our hearts and minds and helps us to realize and celebrate our Oneness.
The reason for joining this pod is because the subject of peace, both inner peace and world peace, has been in my mind and heart and I will lend some of my blog space to the subject the coming days. I thought it would be a wonderful preparation for the next International Day of Peace on September 21, and I invite you to take a look there and share your thoughts with me there.
I believe inner peace lies at the core of world peace.

The funny thing is, Sandy, that in India, we have almost stopped using this word, except to greet older people. As I had once blogged, it seems as if namaste is used more online and in yoga classes abroad, than in India, where we have many other ways of greeting, including the more common [among the educated townies] -Hi!.

To me, that shows that it is used spontaneously, as an expression of something each person wants to convey. Not like a convention or tradition. So, if you are not comfortable with it, I don't think anyone will mind if you use your own words.

BTW, people here often pronounce this as "NAAM-us-tay" and though it is not he Sanskrit/HIndi way, I guess..to each his or her own!

I thankyou for your;e explanation of the pronunciation .
I guess ,although it is used in other groups I belong to ,
I haven't just got used to using it myself yet.
Is it insulting not to reply in same -as I have always just
used peace or peace and love ?
That is my warmth and I do feel strange with using Namaste -
I think I would feel more comfortable using the term .

In India we pronounce namaste this way:
“num” as in number;
“us”
“tay”–with a soft “t”.

I usually sign off with the word peace -but many here
use Namaste -
and I too bow to everyone -and am very fond of the
"Mad Hatter's Tea Party" in Alice of Wonderland !
It's all a bit surreal really -isn't it !

As Alice in Wonderland said.."when I use a word, it means exactly what I mean it to say, neither more, nor less".

However, that is not the case in the case of more than one person...It means what the generally
accepted meaning of that word is.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do...(that is a generally accepted truism).

However, unless I am much mistaken, I am not in India, where this saying originates.

Therefore I felt it necessary to put the brief explanation of what Namaste means in the title.

Hello Fellow 11ers!
I have been followed by this number for many, many years.
At first, not realizing it. It took someone else to speak of the number before I really connected to it.
Since the internet, I have been able to read a lot on 11:11, where as before I could only talk about it with the rare few who also had a connection with the number.
I can't say that all the ideas of what 11:11 means is something I can easily digest, but I'm not one to disregard anything that has yet to be proved or dis-proved.
I can say that the people who are familiar with 11:11 recognise it as something special and carries some sort of message or energy.

Hi,
I'm only about 30 minutes old as a zaadster. My name is Brenda MacIntyre, my spirit name is Medicine Song Woman and I'm an Aboriginal Canadian hand drummer, singer, song-catcher, inspirational speaker, writer and artist. But my main passion and gift is singing - with inspiring words interspersed between the songs - and my songs are all healing songs.

I received a vision when I was a child, just 7 years old. I'll post more on that at my blog soon and just left a post on it at the Vision Cafe.

But that vision has pushed me forward in ways I can't even fully comprehend, as I continue with my life's work of inspiring and empowering people with medicine songs and inspirational speaking.

I'm grateful to be here in this community and have a strong feeling this is going to open up something more inside me very quickly and be a catalyst to my own self-growth and desire for peace and unity in the world.

I am Buddhist, while my husband is Norse. Our beliefs seem to contradict one another, though I believe we are a selective microcosm of what the world can be - people of different creeds, able to love one another for what is in our hearts, rather than what the world feels the need to define us as.
My sole inspiration is my son. Every moment of my life is dedicated to ensuring that the world is a better place for him, so that he may, in turn, make the world better for himself and his prosperity, so forth and so on.
I believe that the greatest change that can take place in the world is compassion. I also believe that this change is most effective when taken on one person at a time, by learning to love each person fully before undertaking the task of loving another.
