OM - Heartfelt Wishes on Your Birthday - Jun 16th

It is my sincere honor and heart-felt joy to be the person who is allowed to go first in wishing OM a happy birthday.  It is also my privilege to attempt to spread the word and bring wishes into this group to warm her heart.

It is hard for me, a person who is rarely at a loss for words, to express in language, what I sincerely feel in my heart, when I think of OM.

Cherished by me is this truth, when the need for such arises, she is there for me, and I am the lucky beneficiary of her wisdom and insight.  It usually is somehow appropriate or triggers some new insight within me.  That is really all we can ever expect from a dear friend; and I do consider OM, my dear friend.

OM, I realize these wishes come early, perhaps before you are ready to hear them as your actual birthday is on the 16th.  It is because we have an abundance of birthdays coming in, around your special day of celebration, that we have pushed our joy in sharing with you a bit forward in time.  

There is only one You, just as there is only one of any of the rest of us.  All of us are special, all of us are meant to be here.  I am so very happy that I was meant to be the one to express this sentiments to you.  My wish for you is that your birthday delights you in very way possible.   I look forward to hearing from your heart and mind, how my birthday wish for you was fulfilled.

I recently wrote an article for Sibyl Magazine that detailed the signifigance of OM.  It is OM that resides in the space between a beginning and an end - a choice point.  OM is the primordial sound of Mother Earth's heartbeat.  OM is chanted by people of many different spiritual traditions.  Why?  Because it means unleashed, unlimited potential and possibility.

Sunflowers have a long history, dating back at least a thousand years to when they were cultivated in fields by Native Americans. By adding sunflowers to an existing crop rotation, pest problems can be reduced. 

Sunflowers grow rapidly, producing large, rough leaves. If planted in early June, sunflowers will be in full bloom after about two months in early August, and be mature by late September. 

A field of sunflowers in bloom is a striking sight, and many farmers remark about the pleasure they, and people passing by, get from seeing the flowers. Each sunflower head, or inflorescence, is actually composed of two types of flowers.  What appears to be yellow petals around the edge of the head are actually individual ray flowers.  The face of the head is comprised of hundreds of disk flowers, which each form into a seed (achene). Commercial sunflowers have flowers that are self-compatible for pollination, meaning they do not require a pollinating insect, although some studies have shown bee pollinators providing a slight yield boost.  

Sunflower heads turn with, or track, the sun early in their development, but later stay east-facing before facing downwards.  Some farmers like to plant their rows north and south so that the heads can lean into the row space, rather than bumping against an adjacent plant, causing some seed to fall.I am planning more but you do remind me of a sunflower and I love how you put seeds here for all of us to continue growing…

I am so grateful to be a part of this sharing.  Your presence is many things that all have been a joy of being in touch with….even my grandchildren, for that matter, have been affiliated with such a presence.<B
The symbol of the “Sunflower” speaks much around our vicinity here, and to my grandchildren - is a “sunlight and feed” for the birdies that flutter by, and the joy they receive from it's nectar.

OMG Kathy, that slideshow of the sunflowers and guitar made me just sit there grinning the whole time. And the little pic is lovely, too. I didn't know some of those facts about sunflowers, what a nice education! I don't even know why I like them. It doesn't seem to be anything anyone else likes about them….. Still a mystery to me ! Hi Om,
Oh I love having been born on the 16th of June! I mean Wow you're right at the crescendo of sunlight, just a few days before the longest day of the year and it meant the end of the school year and freedom for what felt like an eternity. It meant wearing a bathing suit all day long, like a suburban Tarzan swinging from a rope swing into a cool creek and forgetting all about time because the sun was so bright it couldn't have possibly been dinnertime you missed! And what's with the past tense! Once a summer child, always a summer child! :-)
Oh the doctored Van Gogh was just a spontaneous google find and I just thought I'd morph into Van Gogh with a wild man suit to offer you some sunflowers for your birthday.

June the 16 is a very significant date in South Africa and is now commemorated as a public holiday called Youth Day. It was the day the youth stood up to the regime, introducing great change. Each of you must have something in common with these courageous revolutionaries.

As I am increasingly living in the now, 70 milliseconds is about right, and for 70 eons total, that sounds about right, too, haha.

On my actual day, I got several birthday calls from friends, and went to lunch at my favorite restaurant with my friend of 45 years, Rob, and I've had calls and wishes and cards and lunches since then, too !! And some are still pending! The beat goes on !!!
