Need input for a new progect I am considering.

Lizzyl said Oct 6, 2008, 7:33 AM:

I wanted to get some input from anyone of you wise people on something that I am considering doing.
I don't know why, but my morning meditation seems to open up a can of worms :)
Any way, while I have been doing my morning meditation the past few days, an idea has been taking shape.
I would like to write and print a leaflet or something about how people in my income bracket(I am on disability and food stamps at the moment) can go vegetarian.
It has opened new vistas for me and done wonders for stretching my food bill.
I am eating less but I am eating better quality food and I am more satisfied with my meals.
I think that if I could clue people in that vegetarians arn't “weirdo's” , “Treehuggers” or Hollywood types–it could help with their health and wellbeing.
Of course, I will state up front  that I am not a doctor or guru. I only want to share the good it has done in my life .
I plan to ask permission to leave the information in the local food banks and food stamp office.
I don't want to sound preachy or self-righteous. That turned me off to becoming vegetarian for years.
any advice would be welcome.
I should have a rough draft  up on my blog in a few days.

I'm of the attitude that I didn't fight my way to the top of the food chain to be a vegetarian.

However what you are saying is something of a surprise.  I know I risk being tarred and feathered for being a meat eater but if you were to approach this from the purely financial point of view ie

“Does living as a Vegetarian HAVE to cost more?  I DON”T THINK SO!!!”

And then go on to explain.  It will catch peoples attention because everyone KNOWS it costs more to live your lifestyle.

Go for it!!!

Hey! Don't look at me for “tar and feathers”.  I think that everyone has a right to find the way to their own health and happiness.
I am just making a suggestion here-sort of sharing what worked for me-and if it can help someone else-OK.
I can just say that this “lifestyle” has lowered my cholesterol, brought my blood sugar levels to a normal point and helped me lose almost 95 pounds over the past year.
I compare it to one beggar telling others where to find bread. If this particular “bread” is satisfying to them–well and good.
If not, I am sure that they will find the “bread” that is.

OOOOOOOO….

I wasn't criticizing you!!!

I think your idea of putting what you have found out where people can see it is excellent.  Read my comments again and you'll see that.

It is everybody else I'm concerned about…. lol

Lizzy, I've been a vegetarian since birth and perhaps it is easier in India; though you wouldn't know it, as most of the people around me, aren't vegetarian and used to say:”Oh, you are just grass eaters!” Of course, when sitting on a soft lawn, I love to chew on grass too, —the one that grows on lawns; not the euphemism for a drug….

OK; having said all that; this is my input:

1st, you're not seeking to turn people vegetarian but seeking to help those who are considering it, and don't know how or whether to do it. I know many people like this. [Tell yourself this,  so that you don't feel you're facing an insurmountable task from those who've fought their way—etc —as Andrew has done!!!!]  So there's no question of being preachy; because you aren't converting; but informing.

2nd–Perhaps you could say: “Healthy food, healthy wallet–the vegetarian way” and then just give your story the way you give it here; with the appropriate disclaimers.

3rd –You could start a weekly/monthly group where you go shopping for groceries/meals together or plan out a weekly menu or teach each other to cook or swap recipes.

This could then be a support group as well…..
