Love Dogs - Rumi

skywatcher said Sep 18, 2006, 9:48 PM:

The grief you cry out from
draws you toward union.

Your pure sadness
that wants help
is the secret cup.

Listen to the moan of a dog for its master.
That whining is the connection.

There are love-dogs
no one knows the names of.

Give your life
to be one of them.

Thanks for sharing that, Skywatcher. It's beautiful, poignant and oh so often true.  Can I share one as well? One of my favorite Rilke poems has a similar theme:

[As once the winged energy of delight]

As once the winged energy of delight

carried you over childhood's dark abysses,

now beyond your own life build the great

arch of unimagined bridges.

Wonders happen if we can succeed

in passing through the harshest danger;

but only in a bright and purely granted

achievement can we realize the wonder.

To work with Things in the indescribable

relationship is not too hard for us;

the pattern grows more intricate and subtle,

and being swept along is not enough.

Take your practiced powers and stretch them out

until they span the chasm between the two

contradictions… For the god

wants to know himself in you.

-Rainer Maria Rilke
