Here is the card (energy) we are working on collectively this week.
Thid information is taken from Tarot of Transformation by Jasmin Cori & Willow Arlanea
V – Hierophant (Spiritual Leaders) - We live in a world of diversity where the spiritually sophisticated person has access to a variety of spiritual forms from throughout the world, tapping into these through many forms including the internet.
Rather than allowing just one spiritual leader to govern the enforcing of orthodoxy, become spiritually sophisticated by allowing other spiritual leaders into your realm of understanding. We have available, a plurality of forms to learn about spirituality & to evolve & although there is much talk about choosing your path, Native American wisdom tells us, “You don’t choose your medicine. Your medicine chooses you.” This reflects an understanding that there are actual forces shaping your path.
For many of us, it is a path that changes. What is right at one point in time will often give way to something new that better meets our needs the next. As the Sufi poet Rumi reminds us, there are many lamps, but one light; many teachings, but one truth. There is no one conceptual scheme that is complete. Searching the various traditions & teachings that contain the wisdom that is currently available, we must use this information to piece together the parts of our spiritual path.
It is a distortion, a narrowing/exclusivity of perception when a teaching or teacher claims to be the sole authority in spiritual matters. We must learn to work with the physical energies, honoring the Earth & all its inhabitants as part of the sacred. Teachings concerned with these chakras also include forms of tantra that teach you to work with sexual energy (lower chakras).
We must learn to work with interpersonal relationships & communication. This relates to spiritual teachings about right speech, right action, right relationship, right timing, & right placement (middle chakras).
And we must learn to work with the upper chakras, those teachings that talk about visions, guidance & dissolving into light (the upper chakras). All of these areas of our learning are part of the whole; by cutting off or repressing any part of our beingness, we remain incomplete.
Many spiritual teachers are not integrated on all these levels & this is the cause of many of the abuses they have fallen into. It is not enough simply to open up the psychic senses, experience bliss, or even non-duality. You must be able to work skillfully with issues related to power, sexuality & desire & be able to communicate with a modern audience.
Although we can learn much from a yogi who lives in a cave, it is important to remember to integrate all the levels of our existence including the physical, interpersonal & spiritual levels of our beingness.
Spiritual leaders do not always occupy a role in religious institutions, or even loosely affiliated groups. You can be a counselor, healer, or artist & still be a spiritual teacher. The teacher is simply a bridge to the divine –anyone who serves as a bridge or guide on the path can fulfill the role of teacher in particular circumstances.
Focusing on this card may indicate that you are receptive to a new teacher or struggling with a current teacher, or perhaps looking at becoming a teacher; or struggling with ideas of teaching. Perhaps it is a time when a teacher or spiritual leader is needed, a time to take spiritual learning more seriously – fulfill your role as a bridge or guide.
Reflect carefully to see which of these situations applies to you. Whatever your relationship with the outer teacher, it is important not to neglect your relationship with the teacher within. Meditation, journaling, working with intuition & any practice that increases sensitivity & awareness can help you listen to the guidance of your soul. This guidance can alert you to the times when an external teacher is off the mark or falling off a pedestal.
