A beautiful explanation AND it's quite obvious that you gained so much from this experience.

It's great that you took a deep breathe and really reflected on this before choosing to sign off for good in "anger". I believe that everyone is responsible for their experience on Zaadz no matter what changes are made.

This is such a spiritually uplifting space and if you can't roll with the punches here then you must really be suffering when you're offline. Change is inevitable on this planet. Thank you for sharing this lovely reminder with all of us to go within and contemplate then accept the lesson from it. As well as choosing not to close yourself off from others in anger. :-) We always like to believe that we're justified in being angry when we go away pouting ready to tell everyone all about it so I deeply appreciate your sharing of this experience.

My Removal And Subsequent Return To Zaadz (and what I've learned)

As many of you already know my account was deactived recently for several complaints as a response to my friend request. Apparently I had unintentionally sent a few people duplicate friend requests which resulted in their flagging my message as spam. Mathew had notified me of a few complaints several months ago and although I did my best to comply, I'm not always sure who I have and haven't invited into my network. Zaadz now has over 100,000 + members and I have sent out thousands of friend requests during the course of my time here at Zaadz and sometimes I just accidentally hit up the same person more than once.

The good news is that I'm back and I'm going to make every effort not to send anyone messages that could be construed as spam. Thanks to everyone who spoke up and helped me get my account reinstated. I really appreciate the support.

A philosophy and belief that I've been developing is that there is ALWAYS an upside to EVERY situation. There is always a lesson and an opportunity to grow from everything that happens in life. I really believe this and this experience with Zaadz has been no exception.

When I initially had my account deactivated I was absolutely LIVID, to say the least. I've spent MANY hours here at Zaadz networking and building up my friends list and pod list. To have my account abruptly frozen was quite unsettling. My initial reaction was one of anger and hurt. I couldn't believe that something as seemingly innocent as inviting people into my friends network could get me banned from Zaadz. But it seemed it had.

So I calmed down a bit before I reacted. I waited until the end of the day and sent a letter to the Zaadz team explaining pretty much what I'm explaining here. Several days went by and nothing happened. I considered simply not returning to Zaadz even if I was invited back and at one point was pretty convinced that was my position. Another person who had been banned from Zaadz wrote me and suggested I should never return and that if I did this would be a sign of lack of integrity and low character. At first he seemed to make sense.

But the more I thought about the situation the clearer it became. Not returning to Zaadz out of anger over the way I was treated would really not help me accomplish my objectives at all. Zaadz is a powerful networking tool and has so many great people with great visions and it really is a very unique place on the web. The majority of CDs that I've sold has been through Zaadz. To give that resource up just because I was pissed over what happened to my account would accomplish nothing and would in fact be rather childish and lacking in character. To me having integrity means not letting minor obstacles get in the way of accomplishing our goals and visions in life. Character is having the perseverence and will to keep going no matter what life throws at you. This is what character is all about. Not returning out of anger, in an effort to make some sort of point about how "fascist" Zaadz is supposedly becoming (as some have indicated) would not demonstrate character. Leaving Zaadz would simply not help me accomplish anything worthwhile.

And so I will remain here at Zaadz for as long as I am welcome. I value the community here and I hope everyone I interact with can sense that. I truly feel better about the lessons I've learned as a result of all of this. There is always a lesson. Oh, and one other thing I've learned. DON"T SPAM!

AJF Peeps-

I do not disagree with your approach- but I feel you are not understanding how defined this space at Zaadz is. In a yoga studio, a yoga instructor would immediately kick out anyone who was being negative, saying hurtful things, or acting in a way that was not appropriate for a yoga studio. If someone wanted to stand up and sing the national anthem in the middle of savasana- you can see how that would not be beneficial for those who are seeking peace, tranquility, and clarity.

That is the spirit we have here at Zaadz- so when people are spamming, harassing members, pretending they are people they aren't on multiple profiles- I hope you can understand why we have the guidelines we do. Letting that stuff happen would really take away from the value we offer as a place of peace, and would suck away at the integrity which we have worked very hard to establish.

All of that said- If you, or anyone else, has any questions about the TOS or our community guidelines, please shoot me a private message, or any other staff member.

Artist X- hope to see you back- and my apologies if there was a misunderstanding. Thank you for being understanding that we are really making an effort to uphold the integrity in this community.

THAT is important. And it got me thinking that this is what's happening right before our eyes and..........well, what good is it for everyone to be "enlightenend" if we're forgetting that life is going on OUT THERE.

It's not for me to go into more than this one post I'll just put it out there. I already feel like I'm in a bit of a weird spot.

Why not bring back everyone who has been banned, expand the boundaries of liberty and free speech, and let people work it out, just like in life?

It might be necessary to say things like "We're not your parents. We can't shield you from being uncomfortable. We can't field complaints all day because your feelings are hurt."

Just like life.

~Matthew here. I'm the one who deleted Artist X's account. Eight spam reports is actually quite a large number, since most people usually just delete the message without clicking the "report as spam" link.

An update: I've sent Artist X an e-mail message. I'm waiting on a response. He must agree not to bulk mail members in order to have his account re-instated.

Meditation Maverick said, "My Zaadz profile was recently terminated without prior explanation or warning."

Actually, the warning was given back when I initially told you not send people multiple messages.

"This is disturbing to me as I have never knowingly or intentionally spammed anyone on Zaadz."

Sending bulk mail (the same message over and over again to multiple people or sometimes the same person twice, three or four times) is SPAM, even if it's in invitation-as-friend form. Be aware of this. Spamming is not tolerated on Zaadz, and when evaluating a spam report, I make no distinctions between whether or not the person has a general "good" or "bad" reputation. Spam is spam, and it'll get you booted.

"Be that as it may, this email is not meant to criticize Zaadz.com or their practice of removing profiles."

We remove profiles of violators of our terms of use. This should be very clear. Setting up multiple accounts is also against our terms. Therefore, I expect you will deactivate your Med. Mav. account shortly.

All that being said, if you respond to the e-mail I sent you with your solemn vow not to bulk-mail our members, I can get you set back up, and you can continue to prosper on Zaadz.

Oh and one more thing before I leave for my daily walking meditation. I HAD even inquired about advertising on Zaadz as I was really getting tired of spending SO MUCH time on Zaadz. But that inquiry was never responded to. This was several weeks prior to my account deletion...

Artist X here again. Ok I just had to respond to this one and clarify what has transpired here. Mathew warned me several months ago that I had received a couple reports of spamming. I wasn't sure what he meant as I have never intentionally "spammed" anyone. Mathew indicated that I had sent several people more than one friend request - and they complained. This is understandable. I wouldn't want to receive the same message multiple times.

However, Zaadz has no function that indicated whether or not a friend request has already been issued and I was really not sure how to avoid ocassionally sending more than one request. I have been completely shameless about building my friends list. I'm here to network as Zaadz is a social networking site. And of course I am here to promote my music, as my music has an emphasis on spiritual and philosophical themes and I felt like it was a good fit with the Zaadz community and Zaadz' stated goal of empowering conscious capatilism and changing the world, etc...

It's very interesting to hear that it took only a total of eight complaints to get me abruptly deleted from the site. I have sent THOUSANDS of emails out and had archived hundreds of emails with compliments and accolades regarding my music. Of course I no longer have access to these emails as I no longer have access to my Artist X account. It seems like the many hundreds of people who seemed to respond and appreciate my music would somehow outweigh the EIGHT people who complained. I guess not. Very perplexing.

I understand that Zaadz wants to crack down on spam. Spam is an insidious act that must be stopped. But it simply makes no sense to me that they would consider sending friend requests as "spam" on a site that is all about networking. I always made every effort to respond and interact with everyone who emailed me as I'm sure many of you can attest to.

Hey guys- I was surprised too-- Artist x is a buddy of mine- but upon asking the team, Matthew responded:

"The deal is that he was deactivated for spamming. I had warned him previously not to do so. He got his eighth spam report recently. Upon checking his account, he was clearly spamming (sending unsolicited bulk mail, promoting his music)."

I love artist x and his music (i wake up to his cd every morning)- but Matthew isn't the type to deactivate without a very good reason, so I trust his judgement on the spam issue.

It appears certain zaadzters are being exterminated with "extreme prejudice," as it were. Mesuspects that the so called "self-policing" policies put in place recently (and greeted with so much furor) are coming home to roost.

So I suppose now the "Stepford Zaadzters" can be at peace, knowing that anything or anyone they don't approve of will be done away with in fairly short order.

Too many good folks are dropping like flies of late, or otherwise leaving. That weirds me out, and this hamfisted account deleting smacks somewhat of "conscious fascism," for lack of a better term.

Man, who needs that?
