Getting that conversation started is tough... just because you're posting things doesn't mean floods of comments will follow. You've usually got to put in a good 6 months or so of blogging with little return before you build that two-way conversation.

I definitely agree that "establish your authority" is the biggest reason to build a blog (that and the low barrier for entry - can be free).

I work with a few blogs, one of which is http://www.casedetails.com and another is http://www.probonoseo.com
Advice on video site needed... http://peacefulwalker.gaia.com peacefulwalker tag:gaia.com,2009:Gaia-484341 Mon, 28 Sep 2009 19:52:47 GMT http://groups.gaia.com/au-city/conversations/view/484341
Hello,

This group looks like a good place to seek some advice on my new project. I'm a nature videographer and have recently launched a new website,
Peaceful Walks, with the goal of helping people relax and deal with stress in a natural, entertaining way. I hope to accomplish this via short, relaxing videos (about 3-minutes long) of nature scenes I've filmed from locations across the United States.

What I'd like is to get some feedback/advice/suggestions on this concept. Who might find this service of value? Are there certain businesses or organizations that might use this service? I think it's a pretty unique offering on the Web, but I need help in deciding what market to target.

Thanks for your consideration and suggestions,
Randy
Re: it's been a while ... but i'm back http://LeiasRadiantCause.gaia.com Leia tag:gaia.com,2009:Gaia-453893 Wed, 01 Jul 2009 07:08:51 GMT http://groups.gaia.com/au-city/conversations/view/426259#453893
Hi there,
I see that you are a director of One Health Organisation - wonderful. I glanced at your website because I am a student of Naturopathic Medicine in the United States right now (I guess that's our equivalent of a Holistic Health Practitioner?). I will not be a licensed physician for a few years, but I am looking for opportunities to volunteer abroad or intern with a naturopathic/holistic doctor. Is there any way I could contribute to your One Health Organisation as a medical student?
Thanks, and keep up the fantastic entrepreneurial work!
Leia
writer, new to group http://karimaA.gaia.com karimaA tag:gaia.com,2009:Gaia-450570 Sun, 21 Jun 2009 03:15:34 GMT http://groups.gaia.com/au-city/conversations/view/450570
Hi. Try not to actlike a telemarketer or a walking info-mercial. If you can have funpromoting your book or other creative project, all the better, becausethat means readers will probably have fun as well.

- The quality of your creative project must be high to gainleverage. A high-quality creative project could be anything from anesoteric experimental science fiction novel to a heartbreakingly tragicliterary novella posted on a website, a book of poems about yourneighbor’s talking chicken or a techno-thriller about zombies. Thegenre is irrelevant. All that matters is creating a great book. If youdon’t create a great book, most of the advice in Booklife won’t help you.
- The form of the creative project affects your ability to promoteit. Currently, it is still easier to get leverage for a “book” that hasa physical presence in the world. An electronic version of the bookprovides opportunities for leverage as well, but despite all of theways in which the physical book has been put into competition withother forms of itself, it is still, as of this writing at least, theanchor and the goal sought by writers and given the most respect by thehighest number of gatekeepers. Also remember that although I amdefining “book” generally as a creative project, it will always beharder to create ongoing or “permanent” leverage for a short story oran article (and yet simpler because of the limited options) than forthe bulwark that is a novel or story collection or nonfiction book.
---
- Make sure to create quality, professional-looking materials for yourPR effort. You would be better off not creating that website banner adif it isn’t up to professional standards. Similarly, you will doyourself more damage putting out a boring YouTube book trailer that’sfour minutes too long than if you did no trailer at all.
------------------------------------------------------
Re: New Ebook on Nutrition and Depression Link. http://telesterion.gaia.com Bill tag:gaia.com,2009:Gaia-437270 Tue, 12 May 2009 04:44:16 GMT http://groups.gaia.com/au-city/conversations/view/435597#437270
I've always enjoyed Cory Doctorow's take on giving it away... I grew up vegetarian by choice; I didn't like the texture of
meat. However, my parents never researched the kinds of things I would
need to be eating for proper nutrition; I grew up on white minute-rice,
bread, sugary cereals and snacks, and various other forms of junk food.
I was spacey, easily provoked to tears, and depressed as a teen.

Since
I've been a webmaster and writer for a wellness company, I've been
learning of the importance of antioxidants and essential fatty acids. I
started asking myself how many vitamins actually contribute to
depression when they are deficient in the body. So I started writing a
book. I dreamed of having an online business that practically ran
itself and didn't depend on the weather, like our other business. That
dream fueled me to keep going when I didn't want to keep going. I've
finished that book now, and I started with the basic idea in Jan. 08.
It's 59 pages packed with information about depression, the vitamins
that are essential to keeping depression away, amino acid lessons,
essential fatty acid lesson, and five other ways people end up sad for
no reason. (thyroiditis, subluxation, candida…etc).

I went on a
learning journey to make this book, and though I'm not a nutritionist,
I've propelled my knowledge of general nutrition forward exponentially.
To read more about it, see the main sales page:

http://www.liveonpurpose.info
or
http://www.sadfornoreason.com

“Sad for No Reason: How to Use the Mood-Food Connection to Banish Depression Naturally”

It's
currently offered only in pdf, with several free bonuses. I used to work for a place called MHYR that was a wilderness therapy program so I understand your passion for this. The program had good books, like The way of the Peaceful Warrior & The Giver. We used to have a "Group" every night at the fire... and share our stories and auto-biographical stories and experiences.

It was an outdoor program, and was ran by some fairly religious people... and kids were coming to this program from far places in the world. Just to spend 3 months in the mountains they were coming from England, Austrailia, Spain. They grew their beards out and felt what it was like to live outside when it is was 20 degrees below zero and how to make fires from sticks and twigs and bone.

But the most spiritual it ever got was around the big campfire. Throw some logs on and have a circular chat. The conversations would always become an essence of togetherness.
