That's what I always tell people is the challenge of blogging: presenting good information, but doing it in an authentic, charismatic way. Getting that conversation started is tough... just because you're posting things doesn't mean floods of comments will follow. You've usually got to put in a good 6 months or so of blogging with little return before you build that two-way conversation.

I definitely agree that "establish your authority" is the biggest reason to build a blog (that and the low barrier for entry - can be free).

Hello,

This group looks like a good place to seek some advice on my new project. I'm a nature videographer and have recently launched a new website,
Peaceful Walks, with the goal of helping people relax and deal with stress in a natural, entertaining way. I hope to accomplish this via short, relaxing videos (about 3-minutes long) of nature scenes I've filmed from locations across the United States.

What I'd like is to get some feedback/advice/suggestions on this concept. Who might find this service of value? Are there certain businesses or organizations that might use this service? I think it's a pretty unique offering on the Web, but I need help in deciding what market to target.

Hi there,
I see that you are a director of One Health Organisation - wonderful. I glanced at your website because I am a student of Naturopathic Medicine in the United States right now (I guess that's our equivalent of a Holistic Health Practitioner?). I will not be a licensed physician for a few years, but I am looking for opportunities to volunteer abroad or intern with a naturopathic/holistic doctor. Is there any way I could contribute to your One Health Organisation as a medical student?

Bill: I like this approach and have been considering it for a month. I was thinking of simply one chapter as a free ebook, but it's so hard to pick which one because the book builds on itself. I may be able to make my own "PhilosophersNote" overview on my ebook and give away the summary like that, but would that work to convert sales?

About advice: hmmmmm, I'm conservative about that one. I have all the disclaimers in the book that this is not to be taken as medical advice and to see your physician. I'm not a dr, nurse, or nutritionist, but perhaps I could find one who would like to give advice. Perhaps thru joint venture?

Thanks very much for that great idea Jasper. I've been reading Seth Godin's blog for the past couple of years and he also says if u give away the ebook, people will still buy the book. I tried it with fiction, a book my publisher boss wrote, but it flopped. I'd love to chat with you further privately.

I'll have to go set my prefs to alert me when there are replies to this group. I remembered to check in today.

Thats good advice.

Tho I would modify it slightly - give away a free summary ebook, and sell a larger more detailed ebook at the same time, along with access to a members-only area where you give direct advice.

And possibly attract a print publisher thru the buzz.

Just an idea, but you obviously have a great story to tell, and one that could help a lot of people, and you are obviously familiar with blogging - but have you considered serializing your book in a blog with a view to creating a demand of the kind that would interest a publisher? It may sound like you are giving it away, but actually you will be creating what is known to us 'inbound marketing' types as a 'world wide rave' or viral marketing. People are 50 times more likely to download an eBook if it is free of monetary or registration requirements, and people will still buy a copy of a published book even if they already have the pdf. As a backgounder: my mother has been a depressed individual all my
life. I grew up vegetarian by choice; I didn't like the texture of
meat. However, my parents never researched the kinds of things I would
need to be eating for proper nutrition; I grew up on white minute-rice,
bread, sugary cereals and snacks, and various other forms of junk food.
I was spacey, easily provoked to tears, and depressed as a teen.

Since
I've been a webmaster and writer for a wellness company, I've been
learning of the importance of antioxidants and essential fatty acids. I
started asking myself how many vitamins actually contribute to
depression when they are deficient in the body. So I started writing a
book. I dreamed of having an online business that practically ran
itself and didn't depend on the weather, like our other business. That
dream fueled me to keep going when I didn't want to keep going. I've
finished that book now, and I started with the basic idea in Jan. 08.
It's 59 pages packed with information about depression, the vitamins
that are essential to keeping depression away, amino acid lessons,
essential fatty acid lesson, and five other ways people end up sad for
no reason. (thyroiditis, subluxation, candida…etc).

I went on a
learning journey to make this book, and though I'm not a nutritionist,
I've propelled my knowledge of general nutrition forward exponentially.

This sounds like a great idea. I used to work for a place called MHYR that was a wilderness therapy program so I understand your passion for this. The program had good books, like The way of the Peaceful Warrior & The Giver. We used to have a "Group" every night at the fire... and share our stories and auto-biographical stories and experiences.

It was an outdoor program, and was ran by some fairly religious people... and kids were coming to this program from far places in the world. Just to spend 3 months in the mountains they were coming from England, Austrailia, Spain. They grew their beards out and felt what it was like to live outside when it is was 20 degrees below zero and how to make fires from sticks and twigs and bone.

But the most spiritual it ever got was around the big campfire. Throw some logs on and have a circular chat. The conversations would always become an essence of togetherness. Something these kids never had.

Hello everyone!

I have a vision, that i am manifesting. I am still doing the business plan, and still working on the program details.

I will be opening a Drug Treatment Center that holds 250. The Center will be on several acres of land in the Eastern Townships, in Canada.

The program i am creating is for the person to find their truths about themselves and their purpose while on this planet.

I have a detoxification program, where the student (i'd prefer the word student as opposed to addict or patient) detoxifies the body through vitamins, healthy foods, and heat therapy.

I have also a program that teaches the student to locate inside themselves where the trouble began, I will not go into too much here, but this part of the program is very thorough and rewarding, most if not all of of the people who find themselves on drugs have at some points in their early childhood received the messages that they were just not good enough, that they didn't belong, or that they were unwanted, and in the way, of course with several other messages as well, that resulted in the drug use, to "numb" out and "feel" better.
So in the program we do go in depth with this, it is important to empty all the negative beliefs, so that they can be replaced with truths, that they were always perfect and continue to be.

After the detoxification program the students are introduced to the laws of the universe, books like the secret, Louise hay, Wayne dyer ect.. and lots more on the subject of self esteem.

They are also introduced to meditation, and visualization, and yoga, early on in the program.

At the center we will offer music, dance, art classes, we will have horse back riding, and several courses on awareness.

We will do monthly book clubs where we pick inspirational books and study them for the month.

I also have included a family program, where in either apartment style, or townhouses, the parent can have her children there also.
When i was visioning this program it was for the good of all. And the children of the person on drugs has experienced lots of negative stuff, and so they are most likely on their way to the same beliefs, and life styles as the parents.
I have spent a lot of time on this specific area, and they are in for a treat!

I am visioning huge here, all the people who work at the center must be on a spiritual journey of awareness, and be qualified for specific area's.

I am putting this out there, I am looking for people who are interested in working at the center.

Also I am wanting to ask advice on funding options, and any helpful information that you may have for me.

Since i am at it, anyone have anything to help me with the business plan? I am finding it challenging, but i am getting through it!

I am exited to see what will come out of this request...I am so open for discussion,

Now, I worked for a while as a cost estimator at a college text book company and I know what a tiny pittance goes for author fees. Instead of 6 to 10%, what I propose here is that you get to keep is 70%. I personally have had a hard time finding a central location for books of this subject matter, which means we could have a niche! The benefit for me would also be increased traffic to my site and hopefully you authors let me read your works while we are at it. Of course this is something to which we both need to agree, so please take a look at the pdf listed above.
