In an effort to promote sustainable community development, the Blue Mountain Project is committed to enriching the lives of rural Jamaican communities by providing assistance with basic healthcare, educational resources, and training opportunities.
The Blue Mountain Project Service Learning Program is designed for adventure seekers who wish to see Jamaica beyond its resorts and are looking for the opportunity...(more) to improve third world conditions through volunteerism.
Volunteers will have the chance to explore life beyond Jamaica's many vacationer resorts and are welcome to stay as long as they like. Volunteers have their choice of lodging ranging from host families to tent camping or dorm style housing with other volunteers. Itineraries are flexible and scheduled around meals, leisure times, and planned day trips.
In exchange for immersion into Jamaican culture, volunteers agree to participate in a Service Learning Project. Service Learning Projects are designed to improve the conditions of the community of Hagley Gap. Projects vary with community demand and offer opportunity for volunteers to observe and experience ongoing development. Current projects include clinic renovations, children's day camps, and clinical First Aid. (less)
