I've toyed with haiku for over twenty years and have come to love the form and its ability to wake my mind, to narrow my focus so I'm genuinely here, genuinely now. It's a great writer's block solution, at least for me, very much like listing. I see each haiku as a good deal of intense experience in a very small package. They don't always come out that way, but that's the ideal.

At any rate, my wife is an active wicca/witchcraft/pagan priestess. She absolutely adores crows and, as I've seen firsthand, they absolutely adore and follow her wherever she goes. No kidding, they seem to just know. She keeps a bag or sack of snacks for them and, even crows that have likely never seen her before seem to know she's got “something” to give them. I think its cute and I love to watch her interact with them. It's uncanny how well she can imitate their sounds. I wrote the following haiku as the beginnings of a collection intended as a gift to her eventually.

pitching snacks to hungry crows.
Caw!

“Giggle.”

up the lamp post,
one-eyed crow spies witchy crumbs.
Cries,
“All come, come all!”
