A full-scale industrial whaling operation is happening in Japan, the last of which drove whales near extinction.

Sign the petition urging the U.S. to take a stand against Japanese whaling now.

Whales are being hunted in Japan.

But what about the global ban on whaling – you ask? Well, Japan has continued to slaughter whales through a loophole in the global agreement that permits killing in name of “scientific research.” And while legitimate scientists agree that there's no need to kill whales in order to study them, it appears the killing of whales for “science” in Japan is really a commercial hunt in disguise.
Take action!

Japanese whalers have been selling meat from their “research” to supermarkets, gourmet restaurants, even fast-food chains and school cafeterias where whale burgers have become the latest trend.

What's worse, the manner in which these magnificent creatures are murdered is truly horrific; often they are harpooned with explosive tips and then dragged arduously onto whale ships. And now Japan is increasing the slaughter: doubling the number of whales to be killed in an international marine mammal sanctuary.

Unless they are stopped now, Japan will launch a return to full-scale industrial whaling; the last of which once drove whales to the brink of extinction. Only the tremendous resources and clout of the United States has a chance to stop Japan from destroying the world's whales.

Please take a moment to protect these amazing beings of the deep.
Sign the petition asking President Bush to oppose Japan's bid for permanent membership to the United Nations Security Council until they comply with international laws protecting whales.
