Please read this one page report of the results from independent study of rising gasoline prices
NEWS RELEASE April 18, 2006 New Gasoline Study Shows Profits, Not Crude Oil Prices Or Ethanol, Are Driving Pump Price Spike Santa Monica, CA – The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights released a new study today of rising gasoline prices in California that found corporate markups and profiteering are responsible for spring price spikes, not rising crude costs or the national switchover to higher-cost ethanol, as the oil industry claims. Click here to download and read the study. “This study should be a wake-up call for California voters who will vote in November on a ballot initiative to tax windfall profits by oil companies so the state can develop alternatives to the petroleum economy.” |

Tell Oil Companies You Will Boycott ! True Majority has organized a pledge to boycott any oil company that drills in the Arctic Refuge. Take the Pledge and Tell the Oil Companies. If drilling is passed by the full Congress, the success of this boycott will be critical. We must persevere. Once there is oil development on the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge, turning a pristine wilderness into an industrial park, there will be no turning back. Please make a promise to yourself now to stay involved over the next several weeks and to get at least three other people to take action with you. |

power to the people![]() This is worth a few minutes of time:
The oil companies and the power elite are very good at protecting their special interests, but we know that there is potential power in numbers. The only way this could possibly have any impact would be if it were a massive boycott, which means we would all have to be willing to really spread the word, and take action in very large numbers. This is obviously not a magic bullet and we know this boycott doesn't even begin to address the larger issues. We all know that we clearly need to be moving away from dependence on oil, across the board. But it is feasible that such a boycott, if implemented in huge enough numbers, (and it would take a lot of us) could actually make an impact. So, walk, ride your bike, start moving away from depending on your car and gasoline. Get a hybrid car, or one that runs on biodiesel or ethanol. Meanwhile, even if you are completely cynical as to the power of this action to even remotely affect change and influence market prices, even if you find the suggestion of this boycott naive and simplistic, whenever you do put gas in your tank, make sure it's not from exxon or mobil. Not that hard to do. And it can't hurt. I'm following the comments on Christiana's blog. Someone has said, for example, that the profits from the sale of Citgo gasoline go directly to the people of Venezuela. Let's look into this stuff, and continue to work toward being highly-informed consumers and highly-empowered citizens. ***http://www.commondreams.org%22%3Ewww.commondreams.org%3C/a%3E%2Fimages%2Ffrontlogo2.gif%3BLC%0D%0A%3Ablue%3BLH%3A75%3BBGC%3Awhite%3BAH%3Acenter%3BVLC%3Apurple%3BGL%3A0%3BS%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2F%3Ca%20href=%22http://www.commondreams.org%22%3Ewww.commondreams.org%3C/a%3E%3BAWFID%3A558a065e2b806dc5%3B&domains=www.commondreams.org&sitesearch=www.commondreams.org">Related articles on Commondreams, progressive newswire. ***More here, at The Nation. ![]() |
