How I buy more time...

~KES said Mar 29, 2007, 5:31 PM:

When I am on a lot of projects and my in basked is bigger than my desk from being overstuffed and neglected, I start at the top, complete to a done what's in front of me, then go to the next and next and on down.  Then it helps to maintain the former confusion of traffic by the DO IT NOW policy.  I just joined this pod, looked over what I could contribute - then get back to work.

I find applying this Do It Now buys a lot more free time.  It gets one ahead of their game to have time to activate new interests while maintaining other tasks.

I buy more time by delegating effectively.  I have the most amazing team of people working with me.  When a project comes up that I think will be a good stretch or fit to an individual I give them some coaching initially (this takes a bit longer than doing it yourself) I then let them run with it and support them where neccessary.

You won't beleive how much time this saves in the long run!  Also the side effect of letting people run with a strech project, with some support has some fabulous side effects…
Give them the credit for doing the whole thing (even the bits you contributed or helped them with) - this builds people's confidence and credibility  in a corporate environment.
The ideas they contribute are usually better or more interesting than yours because they tend to be fresher or come from a different perspective.
The work gets done well by someone who can focus on the specific project as opposed to me trying to do 50 different things at once.

I get a chance to focus on projects that are interesting and satisfying to me and I get a chance to do my absolute best thing in the world …. help people to become the best they can be.
