I love "None"'s brave mud throwing against Al Gore's credibility. I have read junk like this before.

On another blog site, someone was going on about, how can he (Gore) go on about global warming and an energy crisis when he lives in such a big house and has an energy bill twice the size of the average person in (I forget where he lives, somewhere in Tennessee?).

Of course, they don't mention that both Al and Tipper Gore work at home (which most working people do not do) and that, among other things to reduce their carbon footprint, they get their electricity from a green electricity source (which costs extra). When I checked into the half story that was given on the blog site, it also mentioned that the Gore's are planning to add solar panels somewhere on the house.

I don't know how many alternative energy providers there are in the U.S. or other parts of the world, but in Ontario I only know about one, Bull Frog Power, which provides 100% green electricity, but costs me an extra dollar a day to do it. Only people trying to reduce their carbon footprint will pay that extra cost.

Here are the specifics, cross-posted from my blog:

Al Gore has teamed up with Emmy-winning producer of Live 8, Kevin Wall, in an effort to raise global awareness of our environmental emergency, and - get this - offer solutions that are practical, do-able, and life-enhancing. The launch event, the "tipping point," will be a concert held around the world. It will be just the kick-off to a global campaign intended to help begin the healing of the earth's ecosystems and create a sustainable future for our children and our children's children. It's called "SOS - Save Our Selves."

On 07-07-07 this concert will take place for 24 hours on all 7 continents in a global broadcast over television, radio, satellite radio, and internet, in an effort to take the message about our climate crisis to the entire world. In the United States, NBC will be the television station covering the event, with Bravo, Telemundo, Sirius and XM satellite radio and 2500 radio stations giving some support. 50 radio stations will be covering it live for the entire 24 hours of the show. MSN will be carrying it live globally from the beginning to the end of the show. In Japan there are two television stateions covering it, and in Great Britain, all the BBC networks will be participating.

More than 100 of our most well-known performers will be appearing, including: Jon Bon Jovi, the Red-Hot Chili Peppers, the Black-Eyed Peas, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, the Foo Fighters, Melissa Etheridge, Duran Duran, Enrique Iglesias, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, Lenny Kravitz and Korn, just to name a few.

The cities that are scheduled to host these concerts are: Shanghai, Sydney, Johannesburg, London, and cities yet to be announced in Brazil, Japan and the east coast of the U.S., plus a location in Antarctica. Each of the shows will run from 4 to 8 hours, and 2 to 3 shows will be playing at the same time, in an effort to have the concert run for a contiguous 24 hours to reach all the way around the globe.

While Al Gore was able to reach thousands of people with his slide show, and the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" reached millions, this event is intended to reach 2 billion people with the message. Once the concerts get people's attention, they will also be given resources and information as to how people can live zero-carbon lifestyles and have better lives in the process. He also mentioned that this kind of a change is going to create some great business opportunities, in moving away from old, earth-harming technologies into clean, sustainable, renewable ones that are life-enhancing.

"We have everything we need to solve the climate crisis, with the possible exception of political will. You've heard me say...political will is a renewable resource. Renewing that resource means connecting with the minds and hearts of people all over the world to convey an understanding of the situation," said Al Gore.

The LiveEarth site is going to be the movement's presence on the web, but is just in its infancy right now. They will be developing it and adding cool features like hybrid vehicle channels, eco-friendly vacations and sustainable living resources, etc. in the near future. Have you guys heard about this yet? Al Gore's at it again - this time he rallied the top performers we all love: Red Hot Chili Peppers (anyone else catch them on tour? they rocked the house) Bon Jovi, Melissa Ethridge, Snoop Dog.... who knows who else he's roped in! He's going to start a global performance tour with these guys, they're calling it a concert for Live Earth. Take a look!

I agree with you michael: focusing on "sustainable" technology rather than fightingh should be the approach. It is something that everyone could agree on: safer for the environment, just for society and economically sound.

Climate change is happening! Let's work the "unchange" it.

Joking apart - as I have said elsewhere - climate change is but one of the issues which need to be addressed - but first and foremost an absolute change in global MIND-SET must take place. This MIND-SET change IS happening NOW - as exemplified by the ever accelerating rate of technological change and as such C4Chaos' perspective should be again re-itterated albeit paraphrased -

another argument, which i think is the Singularitarian perspective , focusing on “sustainable” technology rather than fighting off natural and man-made causes of Climate Change is the more compassionate approach. i think this view makes sense. don't you?

No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it. - Albert Einstein - Well, this was the quote haunting my mind after coming out of an "avant première" of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth". Yep, I was one of the first ones to see the movie together with my 14 year old son here in Luxembourg....can you imagine? I can't believe I am living in the heart of Europe and that it took so long to bring this movie over here! But well, finally I saw it, so what?! It really impressed me and I almost cried at the end...no, not of frustration, nor fear, more because somehow it touched me to see that we are finally talking about it. My husband didn't want to come with me because he was afraid of getting even more frustrated about the whole issue which is already making him sick. I was happy to feel that the awareness is growing and proud about taking my son with me. I first thought it would perhaps frighten him to death but then I decided to take him with me anyway, planing to talk about it with him afterwards and I was astonished about his reaction. It didn't take his sleep away but he wasn't indifferent to the theme at all. He asked me a lot of questions...including the one I was afraid to hear: Why are we only reacting to this issue now??? Hm, boy, sorry, I believe it is a question of consciousness...like the quote up there...and this is exactly that, what makes me happy...we are changing... ...but we still need to change our habits, put more pressure on car industries and others...saying no to plastic bags, basically saying no to plastic in general, when possible, turn off the lights when not needed, buy hybrid cars if we can afford them...well, as you see, there's still a lot to do...

MANILA, Philippines --President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo took part Friday in a massive tree-planting campaign aimed at improving air quality in the Philippines while breaking a world record.

The "Green Philippine Highways" project initially aimed to simultaneously plant 500,000 trees on 2,137 miles of roads across the sprawling archipelago, but Environment Undersecretary Francisco Bravo said the figure may have been higher.

I'm so glad he's raising awareness about this, but it sure takes some gall to pretend to be an environmentalist and make so few sacrifices himself.
