Underground Comics

Tired of mainstream comics? Want something refreshing, new, revolutionary, something that makes you think? Well I am sure someone here (I included) showed know something! Mainstream comics are ok but I really do enjoy other comics that have more substance for the most part. But I do not discriminate any other comic books. Most have positive and negatives!

THE WHY & HOW OF MY COMICS

Dree said Aug 12, 2006, 8:32 AM:

I would love to be more computer saffy, but for now I just scan my comics in and (with help) color them in photoshop.

I make my comics to illustrate my passions - sometimes they create some strong resistence, and I hope this way they will help open up the conversation!

An example is my ongoing 'vegan series';

Wish I could get them out there a bit more, but they're just floatin' whereever I feel they have a place right now.

Would be curious to see anybody else's work & reasoning (although total respect for work that 'speaks for itself' ofcourse) here too!

Cheers,

Dree

I like the color choices and the character style is cute really! But BUT I can not read any of it, the text is amazingly too small! ;.; now i see that you off linked it. sorry i probably didnt read where you told us that ;.;! im silly

Other then that it is good :D

But here is another tip, (This tip can be disregarded if your style does not want to incompus it) But I look for comics that have a little more movement to have me feel that I am really there. All the characters are just looking straight forward and standing forward. so maybe have the camera angles change a little more frequently. But this can be disregarded as I said :P!!! Good luck.

Also look in one of the past topics we talk about online web comic communities where you can post your comics and have people see them, or pay to see them!!!

Its for addressing circumstances like you bring up, Dree, that I've been wanting to establish a new (thinking) community of comic artist to cross collaborate more (like we're doing hear). And eventually develop a site that allows artists to fully control how they choose to model their business aspect.

In the meantime, I'm tinkering with ideas for a wiki-site for artist to experiement with charater and plot developments working as a community. Bradley (the author of: New Consumer Model) came up with the original idea.

So its inspired me to at least see if it might be useful. Plus it could provide a means for “new wave” comic authors to promote their work. Since the original idea was to use a wiki for a community of comic artist to all have editing ability of community work, I was thinking all involved could also help shape the evolution of such a site over time. Of course, this is very much a alpha-beta project that hasn't matured further yet. I plan on using ”Komx.com” (pronounced “com-x” after x-gen.) as web name for this project. Nothing there yet, but hopefully soon.

And, Dree, what you're doing now is good for generating new interests. There's a thread in Pod I host where we were discussing simular things. But there hasn't been much interest in opening dialog on comic information and markets. At least not at Zaadz yet. I was so pleased to see this Pod, though.

In response to Tru: I don’t want to get to weird here, but why not look at the mose successful Web model: Porn. How do those sites work? Don’t they entice you with something you’re interested in and then get you to pony up cash for more access? Would that work with comics? If I go to a Chris Ware site (for example) see several strips of the latest work and then want to sign up for the rest of the panels, wouldn’t Chris get the money directly? And collectives could share the cost and be organized by interests: Crime, superhero, indy or whatever?

Just thinkin’ here.

Exactly, Quinton. That's the kind of thinking I had in mind. And it's a good platform to build on.

Bradley was pointing something out like that at one time. But haven't heard from him since.

I'm gonna take a close look at some of those comics you mentioned and check back in later.

Thanks Quinton.
