And to add to Quinton's wonderful assessment of good comic benefits and keys, these days one may secure a chance to see there work as a movie production. So I'd think there are new opportunies coming available for comic cartoonists.

Exactly, Quinton. That's the kind of thinking I had in mind. And it's a good platform to build on.

Bradley was pointing something out like that at one time. But haven't heard from him since.

I'm gonna take a close look at some of those comics you mentioned and check back in later.

Thanks Quinton.

In response to Tru: I don't want to get to weird here, but why not look at the mose successful Web model: Porn. How do those sites work? Don't they entice you with something you're interested in and then get you to pony up cash for more access? Would that work with comics? If I go to a Chris Ware site (for example) see several strips of the latest work and then want to sign up for the rest of the panels, wouldn't Chris get the money directly? And collectives could share the cost and be organized by interests: Crime, superhero, indy or whatever?

Just thinkin' here.

Well said, both of you - I'm a huge fan of Chris Ware and some others that really expand the boundries beyond the Dan Clowes brand of misery. Julie Doucet? Some others - but it all comes down to good writing - characters and visual style. A newer and more intimate style of story-telling.

As for the business model? Seems like distribution is key. Maybe that's a way to crack the next level of comic artists in a collective (an idea I love!).

Keep up the good work!

Dree said: "Wish I could get them out there a bit more, but they're just floatin' whereever I feel they have a place right now."

Its for addressing circumstances like you bring up, Dree, that I've been wanting to establish a new (thinking) community of comic artist to cross collaborate more (like we're doing hear). And eventually develop a site that allows artists to fully control how they choose to model their business aspect.

In the meantime, I'm tinkering with ideas for a wiki-site for artist to experiement with charater and plot developments working as a community. Bradley (the author of: New Consumer Model) came up with the original idea.

So its inspired me to at least see if it might be useful. Plus it could provide a means for "new wave" comic authors to promote their work. Since the original idea was to use a wiki for a community of comic artist to all have editing ability of community work, I was thinking all involved could also help shape the evolution of such a site over time. Of course, this is very much a alpha-beta project that hasn't matured further yet. I plan on using "Komx.com" (pronounced "com-x" after x-gen.) as web name for this project. Nothing there yet, but hopefully soon.

And, Dree, what you're doing now is good for generating new interests. There's a thread in Pod I host where we were discussing simular things. But there hasn't been much interest in opening dialog on comic information and markets. At least not at Zaadz yet. I was so pleased to see this Pod, though.

One thing that turns me off about webcomic hosting sites is the inability to control your own model of doing business with your visitors and readers. Especially for those interested in making it their career.

Its for that reason I seek to establish another means to feature my work. How do some of you feel about this kind of thing?

Neko, you can find documented information on the term business model here [answers.com] and here [wikipedia]. It should help out with its meaning. Of course, the meaning I was implying has to do with the way in which a comic artist generates income.

Nice answer to the questions, Neko. I believe many of us are after simular accomplishments with our work. Awaiting the chance to read your masterminded "twists". :)

I, too, strongly desire to approach and develop something very different than the usual shoot 'em - kill 'em - pervert 'em - one line 'em stuff thats so pervasive these days. It gets a bit tiring. Although, admittedly, I've found various comic works that defy those traditional commonalities.

And its good to address specific issues facing our world through comics. Definitely, it will be unique to draw greater pragmatic thinking ability from comics. Mental stimulation is by far one of my aims too. Hopefully all of us will pitch in to advance this revolution.

It helps when artist ban together and create community solutions that strengthen and advance needed changes to challenging the traditional avenues of comic publishing and promoting. What do you think?

I like the color choices and the character style is cute really! But BUT I can not read any of it, the text is amazingly too small! ;.; now i see that you off linked it. sorry i probably didnt read where you told us that ;.;! im silly

Other then that it is good :D

But here is another tip, (This tip can be disregarded if your style does not want to incompus it) But I look for comics that have a little more movement to have me feel that I am really there. All the characters are just looking straight forward and standing forward. so maybe have the camera angles change a little more frequently. But this can be disregarded as I said :P!!! Good luck.

Also look in one of the past topics we talk about online web comic communities where you can post your comics and have people see them, or pay to see them!!!

I want to create a comic that is both beautiful but has a great story but on top of that I want it to express my views of life, politics, and love etc. And THEN on top of all that I want it to have a twist :D (will not talk further on that :P)

What is a business model?

Im not sure about all other comic artists but I dont want to make the mundain, or the cool hip ones that are about death and killing and drugs, I dont want to make something that dulls the mind and pleases the stomach. I want to stimulate, and educate! I want to make something revolutionary in the way we think or something to help people along the right path who read my comics....

I would love to be more computer saffy, but for now I just scan my comics in and (with help) color them in photoshop.

I make my comics to illustrate my passions - sometimes they create some strong resistence, and I hope this way they will help open up the conversation!

An example is my ongoing 'vegan series';

Food Issues

I Can Hear Warningbells

What’s a Little Prejudice Between Friends?

Wish I could get them out there a bit more, but they're just floatin' whereever I feel they have a place right now.

Would be curious to see anybody else's work & reasoning (although total respect for work that 'speaks for itself' ofcourse) here too!

Cheers,

Dree

I havnt done this yet but I realized that flash tools are smoth and nice lookin which would be good for online comics! So using a tablet is less needed. Or you can ink and then scan and then clean it up on adobe photoshop or procreate painter. I havnt used canvas or the other famous program whatever it is. But I love procreate and photochop. As for design I would always see it as 2 parts.

1 the design of the comic (which you probably already know) Black and white should be well balanced if that is the colors you use. THEN:

2 The color of your page should compliment the color or lack-there-of, of your comic. Crisp smoothness always looks best AND:

Remember most people arnt still used to the internet so the design should be user friendly esp to keep the fans !!!

Sorry maybe what I said is all from my butt and might not mean much but it is honestly what I think since I have not put out a FINISHED webcomic or anything. Do you know of any webhosting webcomic sites, I know there are some that are free and you can post your comic either for free or charge people to see it !!!!!
