journal writing

Hi - I'm new here! Somehow The Artists Way springs to mind as I cast my eye over this delightful pod.
I was born an artist - my father a painter - as was his mother, sister, her husband - and so on. My mother a writer. We all just lived and breathed creativity - no effort - unselfconsciously. As an adult it took me a couple of years to call myself, rather self consciously, 'An Artist'. I went to an amazing alternative art school, the Johannesburg Art Foundation and had seven glorious years of learning from my mentor, Bill Ainslie. Bill died in a car accident in 1989. I stayed on at the art school as a teacher for another 7 years. but found I no longer 'knew what I wanted to say'. I started to explore graphic design and fell in love with the Apple Mac:) with whom I still have  passionate affair. Alongside these experiences I attended writing classes with poet & editor, Lional Abrahams for 5 years. Writing poetry wherever inspiration took me, about my internal & external world. More recently I trained as a yoga teacher and found an integrated life style I can relate to.  I no longer do 'ambitious art', but play. I make joint creative books with loved ones & friends - combinations of art & writing. I write in my journal every day and record my dreams and publish the odd poem. I am a graphic designer - working only with projects which inspire me - mainly alternative poetry publications. I teach yoga & meditation and generally feel my life is art being lived rather than the thing I did those years ago of 'nine to five in the studio'. The other night I had a dream that I must write a book. I'm feeling a bit alarmed - I have been gathering material for years but That seems so FOCUSED & DEMANDING - I need to decide if it's going to be fiction or not - I like the idea of 'or not' - but it could be a mix… and have loads of visual material… but I have a lot of other decisions & ground work to do… and anyway Bill always said not to talk about the idea - do it. Uh huh…
…that's Me Creatively, in a nut shell :)

Oh Hummingbird.
Just reread this great post!
You are amazing. I have been journaling forever. But this past year I have really been doing it almost religiously. Wow! It has helped me focus so much. I have been doing so much more writing and drawing and painting… the list goes on.
Thank you for being an inspiration to me. :)

I am so happy to hear of your journaling which sounds so inspirational! Jodi, thank you soo much for bringing me back to this post written 2 years ago! Makes me chuckle because now two years down the line several books are flowing into manifestation and back then they were a seed in the ether which I was wondering about. I'd forgotten that dream while the books were being birthed. I am yet again humbled by the excellence of Guru Life and it's perfection!

love

That is incredible, actually. To think that so much can happen in so little time. I have also been thinking this past while how everything always seems to be working out. Somehow I end up fumbling my way through and finding the right path. Getting exactly what I need or want or dream. Even when I don't always see it clearly or know what it is going to be.

:) makes me smile. thanks again!
