WRITING PRACTICE:YOUR WALL

Happiness said May 18, 2007, 11:19 AM:

WRITING PRACTICE: YOUR WALL        What’s on your wall?  We all tend to put things up in front of our writing and working space which have significance and meaning for us: Pictures, quotations, mementos.  Usually, these items have some special meaning. Perhaps they remind us of a cherished goal, such as a trip to Easter Island. Perhaps they are the words of a loved philosopher, author or poet.  Perhaps they are symbols that have special resonance for us, and tune us back into our deep self. Perhaps they are pictures from a happy time in our life.  Usually, we could write a whole story or essay around just one of these “wall icons.”  And by all means consider this as a useful adventure.  For now….

PRACTICE:  Read Co-Moderator Burt Kempner’s fine vignette of what is on his wall, posted in the “Sandy, Alex & Burt” writing section. Then, in any form that feels right to you, write a short sketch of what is on the wall right in front of you, now. Remember, short is OK. Longer is OK.  If you find yourself on a roll, go for it!
