How this Assignment Archive works:

Sandra said Jun 5, 2007, 3:49 AM:

A couple of people have written to say they are confused about how this Assignment Archive works.

The Assignment Archive is a listing of all the assignments posted by either myself or one of the moderators.

The main thing is: if you want something to encourage and inspire you to sit down and write,  check out this assignment archive.

They are in no particular order, you can do anyone of them at any time, so have a look at the earlier ones too.

Please post your response as a new thread to the Responses to Assignments board - not as a comment to the assignment itself or as a comment to someone elses post.

If you wish: posting first drafts in the Responses to Assignments board; and then any final and finished work to the appropriate 'other' board ( eg Prose/Poetry/Screenwriting/Playwrighting) - perhaps with a link to the 1st draft so we can see the progression. (Any 'workshopping' of the piece should be done on the 1st draft thread.)

HOWEVER: Responses to any screenwriting/playwrighting assignment go into the Screenwriting/playwrighting board.

ALL assignments can be sent in 'anonymously' - send them to one of the moderators and they will post it up for you with a note that it is anonymous (of course it won't be to whoever you send it to, but it's the best we can do).

If anything is unclear, please post a response to this thread, as it may be unclear for others too, and I can respond to all.

Sandra:  Thanks for the clarification on this.  An important point, anyone can jump in anytime with any of the assignments.  Just browse until you find one which sparks your creative juices. Blessings,  AJN

How do I post a random assignment ?

By random do you mean a piece of work that is not in response to one of the assignments?

If it's prose it goes as a new post here, on the PROSE board
if it's poetry it goes as a new post here. on the POETRY board

And don't forget, for every post of your own creative writing, make one or two comments on other people's creative writing (based on the commenting guidelines ).

Love,
Sandra

So, if I want to read other people's writing and make comments (after I've reviewed the On Commenting guidelines), then the appropriate place to go would be to go to the Responses to Assignments thread, and just begin with any thread that catches my eye?

Well, it depends what you want to do, Nancy.

If you want to do an assignment, as in write one, then you can scroll through the many entries here in this ' The Assignment Archive' room, which is an archive of the list of assignments that are set.

If you want to read people's work, you can choose from several rooms, the Responses to assignments room, the Prose room, the Poetry room. If you go to Diving Deeper's 'home page' and scroll down, you will see other areas where creative work is posted, for example in Writing as a Spiritual Practice & Writing from the Diving Deeper Moderators

And yes, you don't have to respond/comment on any piece in any kind of order.. you can scroll way back in time, wherever/whatever catches your eye (as with doing the actual assignments).

And, of course, depending on what kind of work you want to post, you put it in the appropriate 'room' above. Anything written in response to an assignment goes in the Responses to assignments room, whether it is prose/poetry whatever. If you have other work you want to post.. the other boards/rooms are for that.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Sandra … after a bit more poking about, I found the Responses to Assignments, and just started reading (and commenting) away.  Not sure yet when I'll get around to trying an assignment, but it's been interesting to start getting the feel of this place, and meet some new faces.  Thanks again!

Wow, this is so totally new to me.  I too have been looking around and seeing whats, what and who's who!  Ive been reading but haven't commented.  I guess when I get up enough will power.  I didn't think it would be this hard to get started.  Almost like moving into a new apartment building and getting to know my neighbors.
I will some how manage to get started here soon :)
