“Many of the foods toddlers and older children love are the most pesticide-laden around. Some of the highest levels in our diet of benzene hexachloride (BHC)-a carcinogen nineteen times more potent than DDT- are found in butter, processed cheese, beef frankfurters, and milk chocolate.” - David Steinman
Did you know that additives and preservatives cause hyperactivity and behavioral problems in our children?
Additives have a dire effect on behavior. In 1982, some students at a private school in California performed a study with rats to prove the effects of nutrition on behavior. For 3 months the students-all of whom had behavioral problems, autism or marginal retardation- watched the rats. The rats in the first cage were given natural foods and clean water. The rats in the 2nd cage were given natural foods and beef hot dogs. The 3rd cage: had sugar coated cereal and fruit punch 4th cage: cola and sugar doughnuts The rats in the first cage remained alert, curious, calm and social. The rats that were fed the hot dogs became violent. They fought aggressively and bit off their own tails-or in some cases severed their own tongues. The rats in the 3rd cage-fed sugar cereal and fruit punch-ran around and around the cage, they were nervous hyperactive and aimless. The 4th cage-fed dognuts and cola-had trouble sleeping. They did not huddle together as rats normally would, but chose instead to hunker quivering in corners, unable to function as a social unit. When approached from outside the cage, they became extremely fearful. The school nutritionist Pam Mobely, set up the study to show the children why the school had strict nutritional guidelines and how profoundly their behavior could be influenced by their food and beverage choices.
