Rebounding – bouncing up and down on a so-called “mini-trampoline” – is my hobby, my passion, and even my integral practice.

Please Introduce Yourself

Jordan said Mar 26, 2006, 2:51 PM:

I’m Jordan Gruber, and I *love* rebounding and do it nearly every day for up to an hour (when I have enough time). I want 25 million Americans rebounding daily as the most effective way I know of to improve people’s health, and I’m hear to answer your questions, discuss rebounding with you, and guide you with my nearly four years now of daily experience.

Thanks for bouncing in!

Hello Jordan

My name is Jodi Flesberg Lilly and I am so happy to be a member of this pod.

I got my rebounder in the early 1980's and used it for several years several times a week and loved it. I made up little routines and even thought about creating an exercise video on rebounding. I was overwhelmed by the hows and whatnots involved in producing such a thing and the idea dropped out of my consciousness. Years later when I saw that someone had taken the idea and run with it, I wished I'd had the wherewithal to have followed through.

In 1985, I went through a particularly stressful period as my marriage began to fail and I started running for (the first time in) my life. Running was something I never seriously even considered until the day I found myself actually doing it. i went out for a walk in a furious state of mind and before I knew it I was running and it felt soooo good. The intensity of the activity seemed to better match the intensity of my inner state and allowed me to get outside and move in a way rebounding hadn't. Metaphorically, I first ran away from my marriage, then toward a life I could embrace and finally just for the joy of running.

After 20 years of running consistently most every day, I have reached a point where it isn't the same for me as it once was and I've had thoughts for the past few months of bringing my rebounder up from the garage and using it again.

When I met Jordan here, drawn by his Zaadz name Light Writer, and saw that he was a rebounding enthusiast among so many other fascinating things like the fact that he is founder of Enlightenment.com and the friend of a friend, I introduced myself. Meeting him was a confirmation of my guidance to get rebounding again.

I downloaded Jordan's manuscript and am anxious to get into it. I have been using my rebounder again for the past week or so and all the joy of it is coming back to me.  The one I have was expensive at the time and very well constructed. I am amazed that works every bit as well as it did 20+ years ago.

Thank you for creating this pod. I look forward to getting to know the other members of this pod and sharing the joys of rebounding .

Happy bouncing to all!

Namaste,
Jodi

Hi. I’m Healey and I’ve been lurking on Zaadz and this group for a while. I’m brand-new to rebounding, though not to fitness. I have to say I’m hooked! It’s fun, easy (well, relatively) and I’m hoping it does all the good things it’s supposed to. I’ve been through some life-changes and for me, well, exercise kind of went out the window. I’m looking to get myself back into my former shape. Fortunately I don’t have that far to go, only 10 or 15 pounds. I’m wondering what other steps might help in addition to rebounding. I’ve never had to ‘go on a diet’ before, but I’m not a junk-eater either. My old workout routine consisted of weights/cardio (usually running on a treadmill). So I guess my question is, can I do it all with rebounding or does it need some balancing in other areas?

Well, I rebound pretty much every day, but still do two Pilates classes a week and lift weights usually once a week (upper body, pretty heavy). If you use handweights while you are rebounding, you can also get a pretty good upper body workout, but I would still integrate some kind of stretching, or Pilates, or yoga into your routine, ideally a little before rebounding, but maybe after rebounding as well.

The other thing I’d say is: experiment. See what works. You may find that rebounding does do it all for you, or it may not. But let’s hope for the best!

Hi
I'm Joel, and I haven't really ever formally rebounded (there was a game at a gym I went to once that had four people bouncing on mini-tramps and throwing a bean-bag over dividing nets into goals on the opposite side, but that's not *quite* the same.  ;)  It was fun, and I was flat exhausted when I got out of the thing, couldn't walk very well. )
I'm considering buying a rebounder to put into my daily integrative practices (yoga & chi kung, mostly), and wondering what the most cost effective model is - I know there are several listed on enlightenment.com, Jordan.  I'm just hoping you can give some relatively objective assessements of their cost/functionality ratios.  ;)
ETA: never mind!  One should always check the FAQ's first.  Ooopsy.

Hi Joel,

If you look around the pod you'll see a F.A.Q. just about equipment at http://pods.zaadz.com/digital_darshan/discussions/view/11414. />
The bottom line is this: the most bang for the buck is going to be the Urban Rebounder. I don't like the mat, and I don't like it compared to the newer bungy-based units, but it definitely is not a toy, and you can get a real rebounding workout from it.

If you can afford it, you'd want to go all the way to the top of the line Bellicon Ultimate Rebounder, but if you've never been on one, you won't know the difference, and then later on you can treat yourself to one.

The one thing to *not* do is get a cheap sports store model, and that would be pretty much anything even into the low $100 range. And if you're going to spend that much, you might as well get the Urban Rebounder (which I have no relatinoshp with and Enlightenment.Com gets nothing out of that).

The mid-range American units, the ReboundAir and Bellicons, are in some ways better than the Urban Rebounder. For one thing, they have the better Permatron mat (a DuPont product). But I found these units couldn't really stand up to the pounding that a guy who weighs about 200 pounds like me gave it when I went hard 45 minutes a day. The springs broke, and the mats frayed.

That's about what I know. Good luck!

I'm Nick Smith, I can't say that I ever have rebounded or even been on a trampoline, but now I'm interested.  Can you suggest a model?

Hi there,

Take a look at what I've already written here:
http://pods.zaadz.com/digital_darshan/discussions/view/11414

If spending good money on high-qualityh equipment isn't a problem, then the choice is clear for most people: the Bellicon Ultimate rebounders. But even if you don't want to go for the best of what's out there, I wouldn't spend any less than the $150 or so it will take you to get an Urban Rebounder unit. Pretty much anything below that will be a toy, and not give you a good sense of what rebounding is like.

On Enlightenment.Com in our store we are selling three units, a medium-quality ReboundAir (spring-based) and the Bellicon Ultimates and Minis. Eventually, the prices will come down on the bungy-based Bellicon units, but right now there is nothing else like them, they come in to the country in small lots, and that's just what it is.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

best,

Jordan

After resurrecting my old, rusty, “Springer” brand rebounder from the 80's, I rekindled my passion for bouncing but promptly tore the surface fabric. Immediately, my body told me that this form of exercise was wonderful in so many ways. I decided to invest in the Rebound-Air model and have been loving my experience lately. I always find new ways to move on the rebounder and have recently been experimenting with stretching, yoga postures, etc that incorporate using the rebounder surface. After being introduced to Bradford Keeney's “Shaking Medicine”, I found that “shaking” is really facilitated by being on the rebounder, also. I'm excited to get introduced to ChiBounding soon. What fun to find another passionate jumper.

Glad to see you here!

Could you tell me more about the “Shaking Medicine” that you were speaking of? Is there online information?

You are exaclty right: there are a zillion ways to rebound, all of them interesting, all of them powerful. I look forward to your many contributions to rebounding and ChiBounding over the next several decades!
