Meaning of the Eights

Angela-Eloise said Nov 3, 2006, 6:13 AM:

I did a reading for myself this morning that contained ALL of the eight cards from the four suits. What do you think this means?

Dear Angela:

I can't believe that things which are external: cards, numbers, and so on.
The Truth in within us, nothing can do anything to us but ourselves: the good and the evil are at your reach.
Just walk by the sunny side or by the dark side is a choice we make.
Cards only represent that we are conditioned to believe or not. They don't say anything, they don't mean anything.

Thanks
Yours in Dharma

With all due respect to gonzalo, I was hoping for a thoughtful answer from someone familiar with tarot. I do believe that the tarot can be used to offer insight and guidance, as they are a reflection of the synchronistic energy present at the time of the reading.

Althought I’ve been reading tarot for a while, I’d like to dig deeper into some of the meaning the tarot holds. I do know that when more than one card of a particular number appear in a reading it is significant. Since in this case, I got ALL of the eights, I think the number 8 holds some key to understanding the reading. While I know that eight represents infinity and can represent the ongoing nature of life, I was wondering whether anyone could offer any further insight as to what this might represent.

Thanks!

A-E…
I saw your query a few days ago, and thought it a very interesting one. Have been studying the eights a little here and there as I get free moments, and have been reflecting on them in hopes of providing educated conjecture. Hopefully, I’ll have something to report very soon.

Just wanted you to know your question didn’t get lost out in the infinite ozone.

Blessings…
Rick

Eight of Cups: Stagnation, time to move on

Eight of Pentacles: Dedication, Commitment

Eight of Swords: Restriction

Eight of Wands: Energy, Action

Eight: Constructive/destructive. Anabolic/Metabolic. Flux and reflux. Ebb and flow. Round and round and round we go.

I’m guessing there is a basic conflict between the forces of stagnation and restriction on the one hand, and dedicated commitment to swift and decisive movement on the other. How this might tie in with the rest of your reading, I have no idea. Just throwing this out there…

Hi Angie – you don't mention how many cards were in the entire reading, and where these 8's were placed.  just merely taking it on why there were 4 eights in your reading….well, ok.  but as you may've guessed, there may be hesitancy to give an absolute when there is key information missing to the question.

That aside, a grouping of all the 8's can mean:  journeys and news.

My thoughts on drawing 8's right now connect with the scorpionic energies which are prominent in the Universe at the moment…

Drawing 8's from all 4 suits-I would say you are a guide-that you help others to journey through underworld experiences and the Universe is merely acknowledging your gifts…

I would also safely say that this is merely the cards pointing out to you what you are already sensing-the intensity in others right now…

HI  hope you dont mind
Thought i would put my take on this..

Eights.. 4 = Journeys and good news
……………3 = good news about relationships
……………2 = Surprises..

Eights in numerology means being the Team leader, achiever, bold, analytical, excutive power, super organised, provider..

I also add Astrology  with my my readings which i See you have already done so with Scorpio.. Scorpio has the ability to bring out our inner most feelings and secrets…It could mean that you are going into your studies of the Tarot and your spiritual journey a bit deeper these days, treading on grounds you never thought you would venture before……..being quite unafraid and well prepared now..

Hope that helped a little

Dancing Bear  xx

Edited to say Sorry Katrina i did not see your post till after….I agree with your take i do beleive that she is a leader and has the ability to lead others now…

Good Luck ;D

According to Martinism, 8 is the number of Christ. Perhaps your closer to God then you realize? Turn the number 8 on it's side, and you've got the symbol for infinity… isn't that odd..?
