Originally composed by Bankimchandra Chatterjee, 'Vande Mataram' in its various renditions remains one of the most inspiring songs in the country - it means "I Bow to You, My Motherland!"

I can't believe how he died while making this film. A drunk driver and unconsciousness beats him down. That is what we are all up against. The chaos of ignorance somehow finds its way to try and stop the light. I hope your film gets its message delivered and makes Chase's journey worth the cost of his life.

I just returned from eight days in Sedona, Arizona working on a new documentary, "Peace Walker." It's a pretty incredible story. The director, Tara Golden, inspired by the remarkable woman Peace Pilgrim, decided to do a feature film about a young man whose brother is killed in Iraq and decides to undertake a 1000-mile walk of peace and healing in his memory. Three weeks into the film, the cinematographer and production assistant abruptly quit, leaving Tara and the actor, Chase Korte, high and dry. They decided to press on, recasting the film as a documentary. Chase would no longer be portraying a peace walker but would now be the real thing.

There's a tragic postscript to the story. They completed the walk and returned to the U.S. Almost immediately they had some sharp disagreements over the direction of the film and stopped talking for a while. Finally they agreed to meet halfway between their homes in L.A. and Sedona and iron out their differences, which they managed to do. A half hour into his trip back home, Chase's car was struck from behind by a drunk driver and he was killed instantly.

Some adapted to the changes more easily, others expressed feelings of deprivation and frustration with the shift from their familiar diet and environment. Great film about the 2006 TED conference. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design. You can go to TED.com to watch the video's they have and I watched the video instantly on Netflix... It was so cool to see the cutting of many areas of technology, design, etc.

Into Great Silence

I just watched the German documentary, "Into Great Silence." It's about the Carthusian Order in the French Alps. INTENSE. I still have images of it running through my head.

There are no narrators or verbal narratives. The only human sounds are walking, singing, working, and coughing. There are, however, two brief dialogs. One is with an elder blind monk and a short clip of monks conversing on an outdoor excursion.

I highly recommend it.

This film (The 11th Hour) is not a film about global warming. It is about the sustainability of human culture.

While the movie is going to get attention because of Leonardo's star power, he's not the star at all. Some of the featured experts were incredibly compelling: Steven Schneider of Stanford, for one. Paul Hawken and Michael Gelobter of Redefining Progress were great, and David Suzuki stole the show. To the extent the movie has a metanarrative, I think David provided it. Give it a look. If this film gains popular exposure and acceptance, the impetuous to change our society will never be stronger. I copy/pasted Christy's review:

Saw the film. Liked it and even brought tears to my eyes.

Bummed that it did not touch upon the deprivation caused by a meat-centered diet!! I did catch a few meat industry images, but no actual talk of the environmental damage. Food and diet is the one thing that all people can change and in turn we can see an improvement in the environment and so many other things. Your not going to see people give up their cars, but it is possible to help people move toward a more plant-based diet. It must be done for the environment and for the health of our nation.

Anyways, go see the movie and tell your friends and your podunk uncle with no teeth and your congressman and Walmart headquarters and your teachers and your loved ones and your children.
