Residue from Eco-Dishwasher Detergents?

Phoenix said Jun 14, 2008, 11:57 AM:

Hi Everyone!

I am now using eco-friendly dishwashing detergents, but have found that everyone of the  green major brand gels will leave a residue on my dishes. Does anyone know of a product, that does not do it, but is still green, or does anyone of you make their own detergent for the dishwasher, and is willing to share their ideas?
I really do not want to switch back to the normal stuff, but this is driving me crazy!

Peace

Claudia

I use the Ecover dishwasher tablets and have never noticed a residue.  We've used them for years and love them.

I have never seen them in stores here in Tampa, Florida. Can you tell me where you buy this product?

The Ecover Tablets are great.  Whole Foods carries them, health food stores and barring all else you can get them on drugstore.com.  I tend to just order a bunch of cleaning supplies every few months from them, including the dishwasher tablets.

Hey there… I've had the same problem with the eco brands leaving a residue.  First with BioKleen, then with Seventh Generation.

I found that the Seventh Generation powder works nicely when using HALF the amount of regular dish detergents (like Cascade) - then there's no residue (haven't tried this yet with the BioKleen).

However, I still haven't found a product that is both eco-friendly and effective on coffee/tea stains, so I wash my mugs by hand.

Any other suggestions??

Hi Tsuya!

Thank you for letting me know about your idea on using less of the powder. I have decided a few minutes ago, that I am going to email Seventh Generation, to see  what they suggest, and will post the answer on this thread.

Peace

Hey, Claudia, that would be great!  I am very curious whether it's less phosphates or bulking agent or whatever that causes you to need so much less.

It's nice not to have to use so much, but it would be nice if it worked on mugs, too!  I too don't want to return to the standard bleachy, fake-fruity stuff.  I've seen the Ecover brand, but not their dish detergent…
