Helping out is not some special skill.
It is not the domain of rare individuals. It is not confined to a single part or time of our lives. We simply heed the call of that natural caring impulse and follow where it leads. -Ram Dass and Paul Gorman I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know; the only ones among you who will really be happy are those who have sought and found how to serve. -Albert Schweitzer Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive. -the Dalai Lama If one is to do good, it must be done in minute particulars. -William Blake Small service is true service. -William Wordsworth Service is the rent each of us pays for living - the very purpose of life. -Marian Wright Edelman |

The Jains in India consider reverence for life and nonviolence to be the lodestar of their religion. One of their prayers goes:
“May I always have a friendly feeling toward all living beings in the world and may the stream of compassion always flow from my heart toward distressed and afflicted living beings.' |
