Key skills Enthusiasm, sensitivity, patience and an absolute willingness to listen. The vision of a pioneer, the determination to make it happen and the necessary experience and fortitude to see the project through to its end. I regard myself as being one of those individuals who has had significant positive influence on the establishment of the multimedia industry to date. I am a creative, forthright visual thinker, global in outlook and approach, able to analyse a situation quickly and succinctly, candid in my appraisal and able to define controversial strategic solutions. I am experienced as a communicator at all levels of business and the public sector and take pride in having the confidence of being able to appropriately relate to CEOs and Ministers as well as every other echelon of society, according to the situation. I have all the commercial and technical understanding and in depth knowledge required to envision, design and implement every aspect of the solution and am used, where necessary, to leading the way, always considering that the ideal consultant is one who educates, communicates with, and trains his/her clients to do things for themselves until such time that the consultant needs to be called again. There is no better way to lead and encourage than by example and to practically demonstrate the potential return on investment to business in terms of capital, time, people, skills and training. I have achieved this, over the entirety of my private sector career, by a series of initiatives based around the “art of the possible” concept - whilst always being committed to fitness for purpose first - fitness for technology second - through a process of education, communication and training. My overall skills encompass the following:
My credibility has been established over the last 25 years, as a result of being conscientious, tenacious and dedicated to a high level of commitment, enabling my clients to increase their level of profitable business beyond all expectation. Summary of relevant Experience It was during my latter years of employment with the CAA, in the early 1980s, that I helped to conceive, design and create the video-on-demand user-interface for the Westminster Cable Pilot, on behalf of the global network service provider - BT. The result of those investigations and related processes led to discussions with the Royal Military Police - about safety issues involved in the transportation of prisoners and the subsequent development of interactive multimedia procedures to address those issues - and following the sinking of HMS Sheffield, as a result of an Exocet missile hit, I was also invited by the MOD to advise on an interactive-video based simulator for combat safety training. My long-standing relationship with the MOD later led to the provision of a real-time combat safety system, to the US Department of Defence (Air), during the Gulf War and the subsequent deployment of an exact replica of that system at an MOD establishment. I subsequently advised and set in train - an interactive videodisc project for the Scottish and Newcastle Brewery, which detailed in “lurid consequential terms” the potential results of human error during the unloading of beer barrels at its customers’ premises – the interactive videodisc based safety procedures for the Jaguar Motor Company, when they introduced Robotics, for the first time, to their vehicle manufacturing processes and subsequently various other Computer Integrated Manufacturing projects – and the interactive videodisc based simulation of the use of an endoscope to search for peptic ulcers on behalf of Glaxo. My involvement with the MIT assisted project, for BP and SHELL, to simulate for fire-fighters on the mainland “how to prepare for disasters on off-shore oil rigs” pre-dated some years my participation, alongside the NASA Eames Laboratory, in the world’s first public demonstration of virtual reality. Shortly before I left the employment of the CAA, I submitted a report, for which I received a commendation, detailing the potential development of a Cambridge Ring type protocol over the Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunications Network and the potential application of this technology to the early problems of flow control with which the CAA was then faced. Cambridge Ring was of course developed into ATM, which in its latest collaboration with IP/MPLS, JUNOS, Peribit and Broadcast HDTV over twisted pair, is at the heart of the IPsphere initiative of which BT is a founder member. It is of course this combination of technologies which BT are now providing to NATS as part of the DaVinci system. I believe that I have an intricate understanding of the evolving structure of network communications technologies, the application thereof and a clear focus of how we ALL @zaadz could develop appropriate customised solutions. I would particularly seek to demonstrate a clear vision of where the commercial opportunities for such a Lego™ building-block system may arise and how to bring them to fruition. Employment Details 1997- Senior Customer Engineer The Technologies Group Ltd. Reporting to the Operations Director and Commercial Director in my capacity as Senior Customer Engineer in support of a multitude of clients in both the private and public sectors including SOCO International Oil and The Peugeot Motor Company (PSA). I became heavily involved in the resolution of problems encountered during a wide-area-network nationwide role out, on behalf of PSA, when sales terminals in car showrooms started to “burst into flame”. More recently I provided advice and guidance to Daimler Chrysler in respect to the design of wireless, multimedia terminals for workshop personnel to address serious safety related issues being experienced as a result of a recent vehicle model upgrade. 1997-1990 Freelance specialist consultant Computer Integrated Solutions Ltd. Established a European wide network of Interactive Multimedia Bureaus in collaboration with Canon, Xerox and DELL/DEC Computers, following development of the first networked On Demand Colour solution, in collaboration with the Victoria State Police and their network consultants. It was this base system which was tried and tested by the American Military during the Gulf War. The European wide network then went global and a sophisticated remote access, diagnostics and fix solution was developed to support this initiative. This solution was subsequently supplied to the MOD. 1987-1990 Director Joint Venture Systems Ltd. Worked with the DTI, HMI, Apple U.K., and the EEC and several commercial companies to establish a multimedia resource centre facility in the School of Art and Design at Wolverhampton Polytechnic, with the view to establishing a European Baccalaureate in Multimedia Communications. Further work was completed in respect of the development of generic Computer Integrated Manufacturing solutions with DR. Paul Ranky and an EEC funded EuroPACE project. First Apple Mac based touch-screen solution developed for the St. Louis Zoo project in collaboration with the HOK Architectural Design Group. 1984-1987 Director Acorn Video Ltd. Worked with the BBC, Philips and the EEC to develop and implement the “Domesday” project. Developed, on behalf of Oxford University Press, the “Volcano” interactive videodisc and convinced the Board of OUP to develop an electronic version of the Oxford English Dictionary. Developed a Nationwide network of Interactive videodisc training systems for Lloyds bank based on the Acorn Business Computer. Led the team who created this from scratch. Most of these individuals now hold senior positions in Siemens, Microsoft and Motion Computing. 1974-1984 Air Traffic Controller Civil Aviation Authority Operational ATC and Flow control duties. Discussions with Redifon Flight Simulators in respect to the use of their Teleputer in conjunction with a proposed plan to utilise the AFTN for flow control communications purposes, in collaboration with American Express. 1970-1974 Air Traffic Controller Eurocontrol Operational ATC control duties at Brussels and Maastricht Upper Airspace Centre. Attended several training courses at the Eurocontrol College of Air Traffic Control in Luxembourg. 1964-1970 Air Traffic Controller Ministry of Aviation Air Traffic Control Cadet Training Course. Private Pilot's Licence training. Programming and Systems Analyst training. Joint Civil/Military Area Radar training. Operational duties at the London Air Traffic Control Centre, West Drayton and JATCRU at Sopley. Further documentation / reports / articles / papers can be provided if required.
