In the eye of the beholder ACL said: When you get dressed every morning how much thought goes in to your outfit? Do you think about how the colors compliment each other or how the different textures feel against your...(more) skin. Or do you simply just put on whats clean? Do you ever think about the hours dedicated to making the collar on your shirt perfect. Do you think about the time spent getting your new-buck suede leather to feel and look plush. Do you contemplate the blistered fingers of the person who hand sewed your buttons, sequins or hemline? Probably not. But all these little processes are what bring together the clothes and shoes you wear. I have been studying clothes from every angle ever since I can remember and the clothes that stick in my mind are not always the fantastical crowd pleasers. I often marvel at the clothes that are deceivingly simple-looking. For instance take any men’s shirt and look very carefully at the collar. Do you know how much attention to detail it takes to execute the perfect collar? It is like a complex technical drawing whereby if even one inch is disregarded the entire effect will be sloppy. As I continue on my journey towards greatness in the clothe-making industry I am struck daily by the importance of attention to little details. Its that cute handpainted inner sole to a shoe, or that authentic one of a kind symbol on Vivienne Westwood buttons or baubles as she calls them, or that particular bold shade of yellow used to line a hand bag that puts a smile on my face.It is taking the ordinary and adding that extra to make it extra-ordinary. All these details give clothing a delicate nudge in to the world of Art. I believe that handmade crafts are the future. We can make clothe-making an art and we can appreciate the craftsman whilst we do this. What is your favourite detail? What little idiosyncratic detail caught your eye recently. Share with me. Tell me about your crafts or your love for clothes and art-lets talk… ACL replyRe: In the eye of the beholder benzion72 said: I love your dedication, i love your dream, i believe in your capacity and capability. I studied economics and Japanese undergraduate. Only at the age of 26 did I finally enroll in Fashion school. I was told I was too old to even think of starting a career in fashion. There are no age limits to your talents. And thanks for the comment Benzion72. ACL(less)
