These books get a lot of controversy, particularly in the conservative circles I come from. But, despite being a born-again Christian myself, I think that J.K Rowling has a lot of valid things to say about grace and truth and human nature. There are some incredible themes in all seven of these books.
Aside from that, Harry Potter contains the best cast of characters I have discovered anywhere, a wonderful, winding, intricate tale, and some excellent dialogue and narration. I would not recommend them to children any younger than 12 or 13, but all seven are well worth the read.
CAUTION: addictions start with the first page! Read with care!
I grew up with the Harry Potter books. I was about nine when this one came out, and I've read it a million time since then. Overall, it's a wonderful book for all ages (I don't why it only goes to 13-year-olds on the official overview) Though it is especially good for children. It is very interesting, and it doesn't stick to the norm for witchcraft books. I'd recommend it for anyone.
I love this book! Seeing as it spawned the great harry potter series and the great amounts of amagination and creativity put into it to start the book.

I love this book. It's a complete explosion of imagination. I love to see a woman making her career out of bringing joy and creativity to children all over the world. And it's such a great idea… that maybe the down-trodden, neglected child will stumble across someone or something that changes everything. And the struggle between good and evil is truly philosophical. A wonderful book for any person.
