Easy Read on Big Topic

Anton does a great job here of introducing the Tibetan Book of the Dead to the western mind.  The forward is written by HH.  I hope if I ever write a book that I can get the Dalai Lama to do the forward for me!

In this book, the author makes a sensible, western case for meditation and living with the knowledge of our impending death.  He uses recent western “return from death” experiences as evidence that we are starting to see more clearly that “we” do not end when we stop breathing.  He explains that meditation is a way of acquainting yourself with your true inner self so that after you die you can be calmer and ready for non-corporeal reality.

Again, he treats the bardo (intermediate state, or place in between) very practically and palpable to a western mind.  I kind of wish I had read this book before I read some other treatments of this, a great introduction, simply put.

I certainly recommend this book to someone who is interested in the teachings found in Tibetan Book of the Dead.  It is a great introduction.  One of the things I enjoy so much about this subject is that it applies so wonderfully to today while I'm “alive” and tomorrow when I “won't be”!
