I listened to the audio book version of this a couple of months ago while driving back and forth to work. That was certainly the most laugh and chuckle-filld commute I have enjoyed in a long time.
I am pretty much Bryson's contemporary in time (only a couple of years behind him), so the fifties (and early sixties) he's talking about is the same one I knew and loved as well. I related to so much in this book. If you're from that era, you'll enjoy reading this one. Or if you're just interested in what that era was all about – especially through the eyes of a young person – it's loaded with many interesting facts. But overall, a thoroughly delightful remininscence of a more innocent time, when it seemed there was nowhere to go but higher. (Only the dirty commies made it scary).
