...(more) Falwell, worked with Jim Bakker. What they didn't know is that Mel White--evangelical minister, committed Christian, family man--is gay. In this book, White details his twenty-five years of being counseled, exorcised, electric-shocked, prayed for, and nearly driven to suicide because his church said homosexuality was wrong. Mel White is the founder of Soul Force (http://www.soulforce.org/). His organization addresses spiritual violence as it is directed at the GLBT community. He shows us how to take a non-violent approach to gay rights. His organization is inspired by the work of such greats as Gandhi and MLK, Jr. This is the story of how he came to accept his sexual orientation after years of struggling to change it within the fundamentalist world of Christianity. All gay and lesbian people should read this book – especially those of us who grew up Christian or still identify as Christian.
