I was about 13 or 14 when I read this powerful indictment against war, those who make it, and those who unquestioningly follow the “leaders.” Before this book, I was kind of into all that military crap (hey, I was 13. What did I know). After reading this, and “All Quiet on the Western Front,” I had changed my mind. Intense stuff, and higly recommended.
(By the way, they made a film of this in the early seventies, with Donald Southerland, if I recall correctly.)
