...(more) saga will be one of the monuments of modern science fiction."--Chicago Sun Times. TP: Berkley.(less)
Let me start with full disclosure … I think Frank Herbert’s a genius … and that his DUNE series is one of the greatest science fiction series of all time. Whew! … now that that’s out of the way let’s continue …
Simply put the reason I love this book is because Herbert who was a student and fan of General Semantics lays out the entire structure of language in fictionalized form through the characters he portrays in this book. This is most true of the portrayal of the Jessica, a Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother.
I actually use this book when teaching and presenting language programs, and NLP training as an excellent example of conversational hypnotic protocol, ala Milton Erickson. Herbert finds a way to express the structure of conversational hypnotic protocol as well as I’ve ever seen it expressed in writing through Jessica’s conversations with others and with her internal cohort of Reverend Mothers.
Once again from a raving fan … this is a great book, read it.
