What do you expect of co-moderators?

Meenakshi said Aug 2, 10:04 PM:

Let's share our experiences with co-moderating.

What tasks do mods in your pod do? Whether you're a cultivator or a moderator, please be as specifc as possible; and give the tips and lessons you've learned.

Is it better to have a mod for each room; or divide duties in some other way?

As a group cultivator or  moderator what do you expect of other moderators who co-moderate with you?

What do you expect out of moderators of groups that you are a member of?
Are the guidelines clearly communicated to the moderators?

If a moderator isn't doing what 's expected, what action do you take?

[started in response to Bhatta's suggestion that we can discuss something like a  ”moderator code of conduct”]

Meenakshi, is there some way we can put this new thread near the “How do you choose moderators?” thread or use this to carry on your Moderator Tasks thread that no one contributed to, YET. Or along with What exactly can moderators do? They sure seem related. And those are all in Cultivating Communities 101 Room.

I sure love the kind of “manual” that could emerge if pod mods would contribute more on these subjects.

Blessings, OM Bastet

Grt to bring these together, OM. I've deleted Moderator Tasks
as no one had responded anyway, and added it to my first post in this thread.

The other two threads are related but not exactly the same. I'll move this thread to the Cultivating communities room.

So—what are your responses to the questions in the first post?

Interesting question, Meenakshi !

Maybe the suggestion to have a Mod for each thread would be a good
idea -does anyone else do that here?

I only recently added Moderators after a couple of years of working
my pods alone.
But I am not really sure just what I should be expecting of them?

I guess I thought it would bring in more posts and even members -
but am not always satisfied with the input -which can be lacking
at times.

Then I wonder if it is my fault -having worked alone so long -I am not
sure if I am supposed to have more personal contact with them?
I hear some other groups have lengthy discusions in private emails-
but for me -I do not have the time to do that -AND would much rather
have the discusions within the pods- and out in the open!

So I shall watch this thread with interest and it is nice to connect
with other cultivators -and of course Moderators -:)

On all the groups I cultivate, we have private mod pods for the moderators where we can plan surprises for the members [eg featuring members on Gaia Networking] and birthdays on 50+stars.

Some of them really help us to get closer to each other, which is necessary to work together; plan for times when one or more of us can't be online and so on.

I've seen that some moderators take the task as a responsibility, others take it as something they'd like to do when they have time or if something comes up for them; and still others are more active when members than moderators.

Conversely, on groups that I co-moderate, I've found that some cultivators would like us to be more active and others are more laid back.

So there really isn't just one right way. It's taught me a lot about how to get along with different styles of engaging! And also, how to trust in the process. I can't stress enough, though, how very helpful it is for moderators to have a space to discuss stuff with each other; either  by messaging [if there aren't too many] or in a mod pod.

When you choose a moderator,do you ask the other moderators if they'll be comfortable with the new one, Sandy?

Well that's a difficult question Meenakshi-
Because I have only chosen one moderator in one of my pods-
the other two in my other pod are a result of me sending a general
email asking if anyone would like to be a moderator!
I did ask the first one, about the 2nd though -but as far as I know
neither of them have contact with each other?

I guess I am a little shy in asking -after being re-buffed a couple of times
in the past!

I have been following this thread closely. The One Light Many Windows group, of which I am a co-moderator seems to follow a simple rule, which I believe is the main mantra.

All co-moderators should share the same vision as the cultivator, and should be clear in their mind about the basic purpose (aims/objectives/limits) of the group”.

The remaining pieces will fall in place automatically, including internal communication amongst the co-moderators.

hm.. there isn't much in my own pod that needs special attention.. just to keep the group alive and be helpful when i'm not around, which is awesome because i will be less active with college now (at least this is what i am assuming)

my mods are great! awesome, wonderful, helpful people. they know me well and are great, sweet, fantastic friends, and that makes them awesome mods for my group, because they know how i would typically react and respond to things, should an occasion arise that needs my attention, and i am not around. but yeah, they are awesome, and have great advice and ideas! and i have experienced moderators too, so that is a BIG help!

i guess my expectations are just.. help keep the group afloat, and help as much as possible with things.. my group is meant for fun and just stuff about our bond with animals, so hey, i keep it laidback!
