Green revolution

Rasinj said Jul 25, 2008, 2:16 PM:

Well, we've had tons of revolutions these past couple of thousands years, some of them making it worse for mankind (or all living things on earth) in the future. I'm thinking of the Industrial revolution as an example. What about a green revolution which would take us back to a less stressy world.

Do you think it would be possible to convince enough people to do a total boycott of cars and television? Sure, we'd have to sacrifice some comfort, but… isn't it really worth it if everyone on earth could live on the same standards. Would it be possible to convince people to not strive to earn more material than they need?
I mean, everybody on earth could not possibly live with the same standards as us (thinking about everybody with computers, who even have time left to surf the internet) with the earth's process' rolling naturally, could they?

I would be really proud if I could tell the tale about the green revolution to my grand-children some time in the future.

Is there anything which makes this revolution I am talking about impossible? I can't see anything right now, can you?

Please, if you have any thoughts, just post them, and I will be very happy for the rest of the day  =) Thanks!

Hi Rasinj. :)

I like the idea of everyone in the world sharing the same standard of living, but I think it might be better to elevate those with a poor standard of living to a higher one.

I don't know… I kinda look at our standard of living now as “good,” and a standard of living that includes everything we have now, PLUS renewable power and more/better/cleaner public transit as “even better.” I think we should keep moving forward with technology and innovation to help all countries' standards. Maybe a good way to go would be to look at the worst, most unacceptable things (like not having clean, safe drinking water) and work to eliminate those first. Maybe we could create solar-powered water filters that tap into the rivers that Third World countries use for drinking water, that cleans it. It wouldn't require power (and therefore money) to run – it could just sit there and soak up the sun!
