  Lou : The Backseat Driver

We're looking for QUALITY at GAIA, right?

Lou said Dec 12, 2008, 8:18 AM:

Hey Gaia Lounge,

It's the guy on the bicycle that looks like a professor again!

Since we're looking for QUALITY at GAIA, how about the quality of high school teachers in America?

The answer to the US education disaster is quality teachers!

So how do you measure the quality, or ability if you like, of our teachers?

Children in many of our inner cities receive an education that every citizen in America should be embarrassed about.

We shouldn't compromise with no one when it comes to making sure kids get what they deserve.

The thing that gets me about our education system is that it's so touchy-feely.

Parents, politicians, teachers say the same thing:

”Well, you know, test scores don't take into account creativity and the love of learning.”  Do students say this?

For years, there was no data to measure our kid's success.  Now we have data, and it's a scary thing for teachers.  Most teachers received lifetime job security after one or 2 years on the job.

This system is simply ”old school” or ”has been” if you like.

If we go on living like this, what we will be waisting is more and more of, is our future, our children's.

What we should be asking ourselves now is: what is real, what is honest, what is valued, what is important, what is QUALITY?

All the best,

Lou
