How to read a Bar code: SEE WHERE IT'S MADE!

~KES said Jun 28, 5:50 PM:

I wanted to add my two cents to this as I feel stating that we should not buy china, does not leave a “why”.  There are a number of reasons, but first of all, many products manufactured overseas do not require the standards we do here, and do not have any regulations ensuring their quality.  When something comes in from overseas it is often only sample checked - meaning only a very small sample is taken from one of thousands or millions of pieces to see its quality.  This does not ensure anything.Secondly many things are made by human beings who are forced to work in sweat-shops, child labourers and other such slaves.  Do we really want to have material goods made on the suffering of others?

This is just some data for you - a tool you can use to make choices when you shop.
This is a good way to buy… know before your go …  !! If it is from other countries just ask to make sure it is a product that is fair trade or farmer grown where everyone involved in the product wins.
This may be useful to know when grocery shopping, if it's a concern to you.

If the first 3 digits of the barcode are 690, 691 or 692, the product is MADE IN CHINA.

471 is Made in Taiwan .

This is our right to know, but the government and related departments never educate the public, therefore we have to RESCUE ourselves.

Nowadays,  Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products “MADE IN CHINA “, so they don't show from which country it is made.

However, you may now refer to the barcode, remember if the first 3 digits are:

690-692 … then it is MADE IN CHINA .
00 - 09 … USA & CANADA
30 - 37 … FRANCE
40 - 44 … GERMANY
47 … Taiwan
49 … JAPAN
50 … UK

Thanks so much for sharing this info, Kathy.
I always look at labels and return the item to the shelf if it is made in China.
I had no idea about the bar codes though.

Thanks for the info. Hugs, Lb XOXO
