Thank you for your work. The world needs an ever growing base of people such as yourself and first i was just going to have a short prayer for your thread, I noticed no one replied, which could seem like no one noticed, but on behalf of those who only read and prayed with no posting, love and appreciation from many tender hearts :) |

I received a message from a Gaian who was trying to understand my perspective and the point of forgiving a murderer. I wanted to share my reply with everyone. Forgiveness does not release the offender from the consequences of his or her crime. Forgiveness is also about trusting in the justice system and the inevitable process of divine justice (or karma) - that even when our earthly justice system fails, we persist in the faith that all deeds will be brought to balance eventually, even if we do not get to witness those consequences in this lifetime. While forgiveness does not mean we forget or excuse, forgiveness releases us as the forgivers from the consequences of our anger towards someone. Righteous anger is sometimes necessary as a mechanism of self-defense, but when it crosses the line to long-standing hatred and vengefulness, it becomes spiritually and physically depleting. When we forgive and leave the consequences in the hands of Spirit (God), we release ourselves from unnecessary suffering. Moreover, forgiveness gives the offender's soul an opportunity to evolve – space and room to grow and become something other than what it once was. Sadly, most people tend to resign themselves to living up to the judgments and labels others have stuck on them rather than defy those labels. It's human nature. Of course evolution is always the offender's choice… but by forgiving, we absolve ourselves of any responsibility for limiting that soul's opportunity to evolve… not to mention that by forgiving, we set an example for the offender and others as well. Namaste, Maryl P.S. Beckime Elshani and Daniel Dereere are the names of the victim and perpetrator. |

Thank you Maryl for your post. There are times when each of us need to practice forgiveness in some form or another…it is especially hard sometimes to forgive others the wrongs they have done to us or ourself for the wrongs that we have commited against others. |
