Hey!

I recently read "Go Ask Alice" and it completely blew me away. I really like abnormal psychology books, and one's involving drug addiciton and downward spirals. Its sounds weird, but I'm really not weird. Definitely read it.

Chelsie

Rather than Rand, Nietzsche. In The Birth of Tragedy, he points out that whereas Dionysianism (eg typical Aryan religion) was based on works of theatre claiming allegorical truth, the Levantine religions were based on works of literature claiming literal truth.

And clearly, if you just dont get it, then the claims of literal truth are appealing. In The Genealogy of Morals, he comes to grips with the failure of readers to get where he was coming from in Zarathustra. Among many other things, he says that if you can not seize justice do without it. To have to ask for it results in what we now call exploiting victimhood.

He didnt say that God is dead. What he said was, and many here get it, The Levantine concept of god is dead.

The problem I have with Rand, which I didnt realize til later, is that I've yet to see an idea she presented she didnt steal from Nietzsche. She got away with it cause the Nazis claimed him as a patron saint, so nobody read him to catch her at it.

Its a testament to the lack of scholarship on the part of the Liberal opponents of the Nazis, that they never read how Nietzsche called anti-Semites bufoons.

It really depends on your likes/dislikes. I really enjoy the FBI series by Catherine Coulter, the Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey, the Belgriad and Mallorian by David Eddings, the Dragonrider series by Anne McCaffery and so many others. The Harry Potter books are fun and the Twilight series is supposed to be good. I have not stared them yet.

I can see there have been a plethora of books recommended to you. If our looking for something to truly inspire, The Travelers Gift by Andy Andrews is fantastic and breathtaking. The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Album is a short and profound read as well.

There are such an amazing ray of great spiritual books, teaching books, how to books and I enjoy all those, however my favorite is to connect to a story and really learn from the experience being shown.

Good luck!
Nancy

The Goddesses and Gods of Old Europe, by Gimbutas. There's not that much text; there's hundreds of photos and drawings of artifacts from SE Europe that are 7000 years old. This is where Gaia's "Golden Age of Peace" came from.

JP Mallory, In Search of the Indo-Europeans, says the earliest Aryan word for an authority figure is raj. As in Raja, region, regina, aregon. [sanskrit, english, latin, greek]. And he goes on to say that Raj was "a female tribal leader of great wisdom and mana." And Gimbutas above, shows you their portraits in pottery and stone. These ladies were not fluff bunnies.

Archeologists since have taken modern forensic gear into obscure Transylvanian museums to look at the pollens and resins in the pots to see what they cooked up. They had some of the most powerful psychedelic potions the world has ever seen. They left us a large collection of what Gimbutas calls "Phallic Wands", but Nicole, I've seen porn flicks, and I know dildos when I see them. The witches also cooked up lotsa potions for birth control and abortion.

Which is why the population was so stable and the parties were not often interrupted by women who were too pregnant to enjoy it. Other cultures have used violence at the hands of the warrior class to control men. They used sex, drugs, rock and roll.

I would highly (HIGHLY!) recommend "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson. A true story about how one person can make an incredible difference in the world. Not only should it be required reading for everyone on the planet, but this man seriously deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

By far the best book I read this year. Give it a shot.

My favorite fiction of all time is a series that starts with Angelique, by Sergeann Golon. It's historical, romantic, heroic, epic. But for lighter fare I am also fond of Georgette Heyer's historical (accurate history) romances. I blogged about her.

There are over 300 books in my books list. The ones on my Favorites list all blew me away !! Happy browsing.

We lost the originator of this thread, but there are so many great personal recommendations, I am contributing this thread to Collective Wisdom: The Library for Community Threads. Stop by and applaud it !!

Blessings, OM Bastet
