Notifications to Gmail down

Hi ~Matthew, I hope this finds you well and happy.

Oct. 16 is the last day for which I received Daily Digest Notifications. Those were received on Oct. 17.
IE7, Gmail. 

Individual post notifications seem to be coming through fine!!!

I depend on the “Posts to threads you have posted on” summary extremely much, so I hope those can be caught up on.

The Notifs are not in spam folder.

For me, it is no mail at all from Gaia; including Gaia messages. I changed to gmail when yahoo wasn't working, but it's broken down here too.

Matthew, since I'm not getting group messages, I didn't see that you'd asked a question.  Yes, you're correct.  I am getting Gaia messages when posting on blogs, or whenever someone posts on my blogs or writes a message.  But no mail from the group notifications when i reply to a thread.  And mine isn't a gmail address (but our server uses gmail…hope that doesn't make it more complicated.)    And poor Meenakshi not getting ANY mail?  :(

Yeah, I have NO idea why Meenakshi's aren't coming through.  That's really strange!  @gaia.com addresses also use gmail, and I'm getting notifications ok. 

Meenakshi, can you send a message to google support and ask them what's going on? 

To the others, we'll look into why that one type of notification isn't coming through…

I don't get any notifications @gaia but I do have a separate gmail account which is a backup for me, and it receives ONLY group notifications and “posts on threads you have posted on” notifications. I just checked it, and the last notification was Gaia Lounge on October 17th; today, as you well know, haha, is October 23. And there is zero in Spam there.

Message to Google Support. Haha. I'm cynical. But perhaps Meenakshi can pull off getting a reply. I might try myself.

Thanks for looking into this. It's REALLLLY important for me.

~Matthew, there are many hoops to jump through before you can actually reach Gmail about an issue. Nothing about gaia.com is on the Known Issues page. Here are some of the hoops, (depending on what I answer, another hoop pops up) and obviously I don't have the info about delivery status notification etc. It's just too discouraging from my end.

If you are the administrator of another webmail server, and your domain is having trouble sending messages to Gmail recipients, please refer tothis article instead.
There are a number of reasons why messages may not arrive in your inbox.
Messages can skip your inbox and end up in your All Mail, Spam, or Trashlabels, as the result of automatic spam filtering or filters that you've set up on your messages. Please check the following settings:
On the Filters tab in Settings, look for any filters that delete or archive your mail.On the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab, look to see whether any of these access choices are enabled, and verify Gmail's behavior for handling messages.On the Accounts and Import tab, make sure you haven't misconfigured any Reply-to addresses, and check your Send mail asaddresses.Finally, if you're sending mail to a mailing list that you subscribe to, those messages will only appear in 'Sent Mail.' This behavior also occurs when sending to an email address that automatically forwards mail back to your Gmail address. To test forwarding addresses or mailing lists, use a different email address to send your message.
Still don't know what happened to your mail? Please check your Spamand Trash labels, and try performing a search of all mail in Gmail for the message in question. You can search for conversations by entering the sender's name, the subject of the email, or a phrase from the content of the email, if you know it. Click Show search options, located next to the search box on any Gmail page, and make sure that Mail & Spam & Trash is selected in the Search field. Please note that Gmail search results don't include matches to partial strings or matches that are 'similar' to your query, including plurals and misspellings. If you search for vacation, Gmail returns emails containing instances of vacation, but does not return emails includingvacations or vaccations.

If you still can't find the message, please ask the sender if they received notification of a failed delivery.

 The sender said the message was returned as undeliverable 
 The sender confirmed the message was not returned as undeliverableTo help us investigate, please ask the sender for the original copy of the most recent message you didn't receive, along with the full message headers. You can direct them to http://mail.google.com/support/answer.py?answer=22454for instructions. Ask the sender to save the headers as a .txt file, using theSave As… option in the Internet Explorer or Safari File menu, or the Save Page As… option in the Firefox File menu. It's important that the information is saved using the File menu, rather than copying and pasting it into a new document. The sender should then forward the file to you as an attachment.
Were you able to obtain the full headers from the sender(s)? Full headers have additional information, like 'Message-ID' and 'Received.'

Also, we'll be switching to a new server and system for sending messages soon.  So, if what we're doing now doesn't work, then soon we should see some big improvements anyway.

I guess the new for Gaia is good news, and what Jodi said is bad news. It means as far as gmail is concerned, they have sent along the items to us, is that a correct interpretation? So how is it possible if gmail sent them, they have not arrived? Maybe I'll go check Trash. I know nothing has gone to Spam. If gmail took them before they even reached my spam section, would that register to you as delivered, or undelivered? It doesn't make sense, because the Individual item notifs are coming through like gangbusters, haha. Only the Daily Digests are gone. To me, that suggests the problem is on Gaia's end, because the sender (Gaia) is sending plenty else that gets through just fine.

I can see if we've sent a notification.  But I can't see what gmail does with it once it gets to them.  And yeah, there may be an issue with that one type of notification where it is a daily digest of “threads of posted on”.  I have a ticket in for that.

Hope that will resolve it. Still no notifs except for individual post ones. 

I really don't wanna switch all my groups to Individual post notifs, although that WOULD be a workaround. It would also be an ARGHHHH!!!

Hi Kathy, I escalated the issue.  Hopefully it will be looked at soon.  But in the meantime, u may want to use the work-around that OM mentioned :/

Thank you.  My problem is that I don't HAVE gmail directly.  Our local server has gmail.  Would I call them and ask them if they are somehow holding it up in a spam filter there?  Kathy

Hello Matthew, just for the record (I don't know whether you need every single user's report?) I have the same bug. I get notifications for personal emails and comments, but the daily digest for Diving Deeper hasn't arrived in many days.

For the time being I will switch to individual notifications until the problem is fixed.

Gabrielle, it's kind of crazy when you do the individual notification things because you get EVERY post that is written to the group.  I have a mailbox full of Diving Deeper things every day!  Of course, it suddenly makes you feel much closer to the group.  :)

But ~Matthew I can practically guarantee the problem is with Gaia and not gmail because I am regularly receiving new blog notifications for those I am subscribed to as well as Individual post group Notifs as well as

….you get the idea. The ONLY thing not coming through is Group Daily Digests.

It is now Friday morning and I still haven't received any. Is there any any chance we can get the ones we missed, retroactively? That would be sooooo great!!!!!!!!!! I can retrieve the valuable stuff I have written (stuff for my future book) from the My Activities list, but the Daily Digest has the actual content, so it's easier to spot relevant posts.

BTW My Activities was originally supposed to be only the previous 3 months' worth, but I think now it is just cumulative, perhaps someone realized that the older the list, the MORE VALUABLE it is!!!!!!!!! So I am reallllllllllly grateful for that shift in policy.

understanding this is being looked into, taken care of. Just to say, i just saw on a help forum that another person isn't getting group updates from some other group, either. Non-Gaia. But gmail isn't very accessible, is it? Appears to be nobody home.

Either things have been superquiet the past couple of days or my other notifications are drying up too.I've gotten a few but not many.

Last Group Notif. continues to be October 17. A long time ago. I see Tely is having the same problem, posted in another thread.

What's happening ~Matthew? This is a realllllly serious glitch !!!!!
