Sorry for the spell check issue I cannot say anything more, it is hard not seeing anyone's computer configurations. There are a lot of factors involved.

Just to make sure: In FF browser, on the main menu, click on Tools, then Options, then on the Advanced tab, look for the heading "Browsing", and make sure the "Check my spelling as I type" has a "check mark".

As for the IE addon: when you have a tab that is active, if you "right-click" on an empty part of the page, choose "View this page in IE tab". I don't think there is a button that you can click, just that option I just described. Or on the main menu, click on Tools, then IE Tab Options.

So when you choose to view a tab you are on on an IE tab, then that will become an IE tab. (Redundant I know) But what I want to say is you may want to download another addon that "Duplicates A Tab" so before you choose to view a tab in IE, duplicate it first in a Firefox tab.

I have done this -
Firefox will spell check with the language you set it on. If you type “about:config” in the address bar, then click on ” I will be careful, I promise” and then on the Filter type
spellchecker.dictionary
Double click on the “spellchecker.dictionary” line and you will be able to change “en-us” to “en-gb” that is if you have a compatible en-gb for FF3 at this time.
I don't know what kind of “en-GB” you have.
- and although en-GB is already there there is still no change to the language being used!

Regarding the IE7 spell checking, as I said, it is working perfectly.

Regarding the IE tab, I have downloaded it and selected the button etc. but cannot see the button on the page!!

Thank you for your help and, yes, I appreciate that you are not an expert - it seems that any expert would be so busy keeping up with changes that they would have no time to help anyone!!

NB. It now seems that the spell checker is not even working on the title line!!! No worries, I will keep on trying; a few more months will do no harm!

Hi Ian,

Since Mozilla introduced Firefox 3, there are a lot of addons and extensions that are not compatible "yet" with FF3.
There is this British English Dictionary addon that is not compatible yet with FF3 but can be use with FF2.

Did you know that you can have an IE tab in FF3 browser?

When I downloaded FF3 right on the release day, this IE tab for Firefox is not compatible yet with FF3, which is a bummer because I like this IE tab addon, but the next day it was already compatible. So a lot of developers out there are trying to catch up with FF3 and your favorite features will be there pretty soon.

Thanks samme, but I must get clarification of a few of things before I do what you suggest - which, incidentally, I have tried at least in part a few times before without success.
These are:
1. You say, Firefox does spell checking - do you mean using enGB or enUS? My question related to the former.
2. You say, Firefox does spell checking only in multi-line text boxes - yes, but not using enGB.
3. I want Firefox to check all I write - single as well as multi line.

Eagerly awaiting your further expertise!

NB. I am using IE7 at the moment and a long time ago introduced ieSpell which I click on to check spelling when I need a spell check! It does a wonderful job!

Hi Ian:
Enabling spell check in text-fields
By default Firefox does spell checking only in multi-line text boxes. If you want the Firefox to spell check the single line text entry fields too, this hack is for you:

Enter about:config into the address bar and hit enter.
Click on "I'll be careful, I promise!" button.
Enter layout.spellcheckDefault into the Filter text box. Double click on that preference value and change the value to 2.

NB. I just want to add that the Firefox enGB spell checker works in the Title bar but not in the text box!

For a long time I have tried to set up an British English spell check here and even though I downloaded Firefox 3 with enGB I could not get this to work. My computer guy tells me that his investigation of this problem point to the fault being with the Gaia 'editor/s' who need to provide for the use of other spell checker options. Could this be arranged please?
