Help! Can't invite friend to a semi-private pod - again!

Dear support team,

today I happily accepted Samme's friend's invitation and tried to send him an invitation to our (semi-private) Diving Deeper Writing Workshop group. Unfortunately he doesn't appear on my friend's list in the Diving Deeper admin section, so I can't send the invitation out to him.

From the last time this happened I understood that a member cannot be invited a second time, should s/he have received an earlier invitation and buried it somewhere, but in Samme's case this has not happened. (at least not as far as I know…).

I hope you can fix whatever it  is that keeps us from inviting and welcoming Samme as a member of our little writer's community!

I see,

It looks like he can't be invited because he's a former member of the group.  I'll write a ticket for our engineers, asking them to make it so that former members can re-join a semi-private pod.  I'm not sure if they'll be able to get to this ticket any time soon, since it's a lot of work for something that will rarely happen.  So, in that case, I'll request that they at least just add Samme back to the member list of Diving Deeper. 

He wants to be part of the group, right?

Matthew, yes, he wants to be a member of the group and we'd be delighted to have him - it would be great if he could be added back to the member list.

This is an important issue, since our new policy has also been to remove members who have not once logged into the group in longer then six months. Which means, anybody who was removed and wants to come back, will have the same problem! We were not aware of that.

I don't think this is something this acutally happens rarely, I know we're not the only semi-private group with this policy, so there might be a huge wave of removed members rolling in at some point.

I 'll suggest we stop removing inactive members until former members can re-join a semi-private pod! I will also let people on the Gaia moderator pod know about this.

Thanks a lot, Matthew! God, I just hope we won't have tens and hundreds of former members rediscovering their love for writing before this is dealt with!

Matthew – I feel this is actually a rather important issue..and not something that will rarely happen, actually. I think people do join and the fact that they don't peruse the pod for 6 months doesn't mean they are not still interested, particularly since things change in life and community, and the 'writing muse' often leaves us and then returns.  Their desire to rejoin seems to me a very important thing to be able to say *yes* to…

And, I suspect that with our new 'semi-private' pod there will be fewer people who will fit this scenario. In any case, is there a way we can, in the meantime, get Samme entry *now*?

Diving Deeper has just had another request for entry by someone who was removed… can we find a way to fix this problem  asap?

I've put the request in for this.  The gaia devs will need to set the prioritization on it.  Hopefully, they can get to it ASAP.

Hmm. http://valis.gaia.com/ He was an ex member but wasn't a “friend “of mine so I invited him just incase that worked and it did. Weird. Sorry, I should have tried this before adding a note here.

She has an invitation sitting in her inbox (on the first page) from Ayla.  Just ask her to open the message and click the “accept” button :)

What about the other two that we can't invite ….Samme & Nishtha?  It's been well over a month, I believe, and still nothing is resolved.  I'd love to get them in before they lose all intersest.  Any  way this could be bumped up on the priority list?  Thanx & sorry for being a pest.

You're not being a pest, ayla.  But I think there's a way you guys can fix the situation now.  If you look at the admin options now, you should see “public”, “private”, and “request in”.  The third means semi-private.  So, you should be able to set it to public momentarily, letting your friends in, then set it back to “request in”.

Let me know if that doesn't work!

Matthew – Ayla wasn't able to do the trick you suggested, so I tried it… didn't work. I tried to invite Samme and Peridot who are on my friends list ( I'm waiting for Nishtha to say yes), but they did not appear on the list after I had switched to 'public'……
sigh. Sorry. can we try again?

OK, the fix for this should be in.  Ryan says he changed the status from request-in to public.  If you can't change it back, let me know!

I'm very confused, Matthew. I just went to change the status of the group - that was never a problem, I could change this before.
After changing it back to request-in, I was unable to invite the people mentioned ( C4 contacted me in your absence and has the links etc). They were not on the list inspite of being my 'friend'. Are you saying I should re-try the 'work around'? I will do that, and probably should have done this before replying here, but this doesn't feel like a fix to me….

I just tried it.. and still can't invite either peridot or nishtha. They simply don't show up on my list of invitable friends. Samme seems to have miraculousy become a member, although so far none of us mods know why…

Right, you can't invite them.  The idea is the you send them a message and let them know when it is public.  They can then join by themselves.  Then, once they're in, you turn it back to request-in.  Make sense?

Hi Matthew,

I'm stuck with the teen pod.
As you know, it's now in a locked private position.
I can't invite kids via the lounge, because I can't just add them
if they email me.
I can't invite them from the pod itself if they are not on my personal friend list.

What I usually did was keep the pod private, then I invited a new kid from
the lounge by responding to their post.  I'd then open the pod to public
until they joined, then hit private again once they were in.
(We had some troll problems there.)
But now it's locked in private and I can't change it or invite them to add them.

everyone on the list is now 'in', although we are not sure how some of them managed, but it's done ( and 6 others joined while we were public… seems like Gaia is hopping these days).

similar issue:  rosethorns does not appear when I try to invite her to Diving Deeper. I think she may already have an invitation from me (my email filing system is appalling) - I've asked her to check but our communication seems not to work that well.

sorry about this, but would it be possible to let me know if she does have an invite and where it is?

Davie wants to join Diving Deeper, but I'm unable to send him an invite. He left the pod a while back, and wants back in. None of the mods can invite him, I'm sure because of this 'once you've left you cannot get back in' glitch. Can we do something about this? He was an active and very supportive member.

Hi Matthew - this issue seems to have come up on the Mod Pod - Tharlam needs to be invited back - I was able to do this on the private group for the Mod Pod Mods, but for some reason not to the Mod Pod.
