  Anna : Manifesting the Dream

Lakshmi, Goddess of Abundance

Anna said Jun 12, 2008, 12:28 PM:

Lakshmi, Goddess of Abundance

I am the ever-flowing outpouringof plentythe inexhaustiblethe never endingfrom the fullness of my beingI give richly and opulentlygenerously and copiouslyluxuriously and liberallyI am limitlessfor I cannot be containedI am everywhereand will never cease to be

The Mythology

Worship of Lakshmi (pronounced lock'shmee) began prior to the Aryan invasion of India. She is considered the animating force or Shakti of Vishnu, the Preserver. Her sacred animal is the cow, symbol of abundance and plenty. She appears here with elephants pouring water, another sybol of her powerful abundance. Although described as floating on the eternal sea of time, resting on a lotus, Hindus say that the Gods churned the sea of creation from which Lakshmi appeared in all her splendor.

The Lessons of this Goddess

Lakshmi appears in your life to tell you it is time to nurture wholeness by recognizing and living from abundance. Is your existence defined and contained by the parameters of scarcity rather than abundance? Are your finances based on a poverty consciousness rather than limitlessness and plenty? Is your outlook on life one of never having enough rather than of having your needs met? Let yourself open to the abundance, the bounty that exists in your world. The Goddess says that abundance is hard to perceive if lack, poverty, and scarcity dominate your consciousness. The way to wholeness for you lies in opening to the flow of life. When you open to the flow, you become part of it and you draw it to you. When you become aware of the abundance in your life in all its forms-friendship, health, family, love, beauty, talent, humor, et cetera-you can call in more from a conscious place.

How do you open your conciousness to the bounty Laksmi has to offer?

Any ritual or mediation?

In my experience - Lakshmi finds you.

Perhaps her discusson on this board, has heralded your meeting. Perhaps this thread sat “dead” for a time because you were not ready to meet her. Perhaps now it is time.

Lakshmi is gentle, and nurturing not so much through her action as through her strong and quiet presence. For me she seems to echo most beautifully when one has come to know Satori - the state of being wholly present in the moment. (Not saying she expects you to be proficient here) The past is “fixed” - at least to our 2-D minds, the future is more or less a sea of limitless possibilities (good and bad), but the moment of “now” is both everlasting and fleeting. It is the moment where the future of possibility flows into the fixed paradigm of personal history. The real moment of “flow” is “now” Lakshmi tells us to relax, let go of our worries and obsessions, and “get out of our own way” as some have put it. She is a compassionate comforter, though she will not give you what you cannot accept. This is to say that if you seek her aid from the standpoint of poverty and depserate “neediness” you will likely not find what you seek, for her comfort is both gift and solace, but not enablement. She will not grant you riches only to squander them - but she may make you re-evaluate what in fact constitutes richness to you. Lakshmi's feel is like the luxurious fabrics, the quitude of a still sea, the sky that contains the stars. She can indeed open you to the flow of life, help you to learn about (and benefit from) the sacred moment of “now”, and teach you to reward yourself with pampering for a job well done - if you will let her.

If you feel it is time to meet her, I recommend finding an image, doing a little research, and then (or instead) simply meet her in meditation or sacred space. Then be willing to listen for the quiet echo of her voice in the magickal world of everyday living.

A Mantra for Lakshmi:

Om Shrim Maha lakshmi-yei Swaha

Rough Translation: 'Om and salutations to that feminine energy which bestows all manner of wealth, and for which Shrim is the seed'

This mantra has not only been used for the purpose of attracting prosperity, but also for drawing in proper friends, clearing up family misunderstandings and quarrels, and smoothing some health problems. As we all know, there are many different kinds of wealth. As you use this mantra, focus on the kind of wealth you wish to manifest in your life.

(This is from www.sanskritmantra.com )

It's a lovely energy to chant this femanine mantra, I really enjoy it.

One more!!

There is a goreous little Indian girl bornwith eight limbs who is believed to be a reincarnation of Lakshmi, her parents have named her after the Goddess and she has recently undergone a huge surgery to help her be able to walk. It's such an amazing story.
