(This quote comes from Joy Bringer, who recently posted it on her Blog with some of her beautiful “haiku” artwork.) Our Haiku Group, then, is a place for you to learn about, write and share your haiku and short short poems in any style. “Short” is the key word here. There are different styles of haiku, ranging from staying with a strict syllable count (5-7-5) to the “Kerouac” style which goes for the moment of aha, revelation and perception, and is not bound by form. We invite you to experiment in any form that feels right for the thought you wish to express. Haiku is an excellent way to write wherever you find yourself, so it is easy to carry a small journal and jot down moments that you can later develop. Haiku is about learning to see with your Inner Eye, and capture fleeting moments of beauty, grace and meaning. This is a simple, elegant way to play, meditate on Nature and life, reflect and immerse in the creative process. In so doing, we can for a few moments, transcend our personal lives and discover new ways to see the world. Your original artwork to accompany your poems is welcome as well.
