MUSIC THAT HEALS

Samme said Jan 3, 7:58 PM:

DNARecently, the original sound frequencies used in Gregorian Chants sung by ancient Monks to St. John the Baptist were found by Dr. Leonard Horowitz while researching his book “Healing Codes for the Biological Apocalypse”.  The Monks chanted to a peculiar scale was said to manifest great miracles and bring the Monks closer to God.

The reason the frequencies were lost are not clear.  It appears that sometime about 800 years ago the original Solfeggio Frequencies were replaced with the scale you know today by the Pope.   An additional note was added and the frequencies were changed slightly (the 'C' note you hear on a piano differs from the original frequency by about 32 Hz).

Albert Einstein said that all matter is nothing more than vibration of energy.  That matter that you can see and feel simply has its vibration set to a frequency that you can sense.  So, it stands to reason that, if all matter is vibrational then God resonates through all things on His own vibrational frequency.  It seems likely that if an individual could get his own cell structure vibrating on the same frequency as God, he could then commune with God more easily.

People who have listened to these frequencies report intense feelings of peace, calm and physical strength combined with an abundance of almost child-like energy.

I have personally listened to a chant called 'Holy Harmony' which employs all 6 of the individual frequencies mixed with a beautiful and melodious chant of “Yod Heh Shin Vav Heh” (which is the Hebrew name of Jesus Christ).  I can say that my energy levels have increased, my mind is clearer and my Restless Leg Syndrome has disappeared.

Rather than the Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti that you know, the Monks chanted to the six Solfeggio Frequencies - which are;

Greetings everyone! I just found Gaia a few days ago while researching sound healing. And, now I find this group!

I've been a bodyworker for the past 18 years. I came to bodywork by finding Wilhelm Reich's work, a therapist who used his ideas and by a desire to learn more about the body since the work is body-centered.

Along the way, I've realized that what Reich refered to as “the thin red thread” that is at the core of everything is vibration. We are in duality which creates a constant state of oscillation between the poles of duality. But, we are also in a state of unity simultaneously. Unity is the state of simply being. There is no movement, there is no-thing. It is the state represented by the 0 and the 1 while duality is represented by 2. Why 0 and 1? When you compress duality to the point where the split begins to disappear, THINGS begin to appear as ONE THING. I believe this is the wholeness we seek.

But, paradoxically, the state of wholeness is really the state of no-thingness since duality disappears. So, some paths point toward wholeness and others toward nothingness. It is the same. But, our dualistic mind needs two numbers, two points of view to “understand” this. Hence, 0 AND 1.

What does this have to do with vibration and sound healing? Imagine energy oscillating between two poles. This can be represented as a wave flowing from one to the other. The more we are in duality, the farther apart the poles. The closer we get to center, to unity, the distance shortens AND the FREQUENCY increases. This is what I view as “increasing our vibration”. And, the “highest” vibration in duality is what? LIGHT!

Becoming more “centered” is moving toward enlightenment which is the highest state available in duality. Go BEYOND that and you're out of duality and become God, whole, nothing…you stop existing and just are.

To my mind, sound doesn't put us in touch with God or our unitive existence. It is part of our dualistic existence and it can facilitate harmony OR dissonance (both are useful) through harmonic resonance or dissonance.

I experienced what Reich called the “orgasm reflex” through the bodywork that was part of his therapy. I began to use that in my practice. It amounts to putting stress on a blocked area while the person initiates and maintains a wave through their breathing. The wave intensifies the energy from within and starts to disperse the stuck energy which is carried by the wave of the breath out of the body. As this happens, energy rushes into the void created and is now allowed to flow unimpeded through the entire body. The body vibrates “on its own”, as in an orgasm.

Aquarian energy is related to this. I associate Aquarius and it's planet Uranus with lightning which refreshes what it flows THROUGH and destroys what resists it. It is also electric and revolutionary.

Until 1760 humanity could not see beyond the planet Saturn. It represents the boundary of our consciousness. Uranus is the next planet out there BEYOND OUR BOX. At the time of Uranus' discovery two interesting phenomena occured. First, there was a spate of “possessions” where people began to spontaneously vibrate, often during religious rites. This was experienced as either possesion or the spirit of God moving through the person. It was the orgasm reflex occuring “out of the blue”…so Uranian!

The other dynamic of this time was the very sudden desire for freedom in the masses. Freedom was never a major desire beyond a few far-sighted individuals. Then SUDDENLY we experienced the Age of Revolution.

Why am I bringing all this up? Because we are segueing into the Aquarian age. We are experiencing lightning-like changes that can either revolutionize the world or destroy it…probably there will be some of both. What gets “destroyed” is what refuses to change. So, it behooves us to become as pliable to the Aquarian energy as we can be. SOUND is the simplest way. Edgar Cayce forecast that sound will be the medicine of the future. Here we are!

I've experienced the didgeridoo as an even more potent way to break up stagnation…beyond deep bodywork…but, IF its combined with breathing. I've experienced crystal bowls and gongs having the same effect. Its really all about vibration. Didges tend to creat the dissonance more than bowls, but bowls create more harmony. I've looked for people to collaborate with in my project to combine sound and breathwork, but its been strangely hard to find like-minded people who I could co-ordinate schedules with.

So, I finally bought a bowl and a slider didg and will try it myself! I bought the slider didg because I know what Samme just posted about the scale somehow being “off”. I was born in Chicago, son of a Bosnian Muslim father and Croatian Catholic mother. I grew up with middle eastern and western music simultaneously. And, because most of my parents' friends were Eastern Orthodox, I was exposed to those chants as well. As I grew, the music of the late 60's influenced me. The Beatles and the Chicago blues. I saw no lines between gut wrenching music and transcendant music. I didn't understand anything, but I felt it.

Now, its all making “sense”, its coming together and its so SIMPLE, so elemental. Its all just frequency. Check out Nikola Tesla's work with harmonic resonance and…LIGHTNING! And, he was from the same part of the world as my parents…the Balkans, the midpoint between east and west.

I'll be posting my experiences with sound. I will especially be experimenting with Samme's info about the Gregorian scale and other “off” scales. I find it interesting that Jimi Hendrix was drawn to a different tuning. So was Albert Collins who was also using rattlesnake rattles in his guitar to create vibratory effects. And, my favorite musician, Peter Green, played a guitar with an incredibly unusual tone. Nobody could tell how he got the tone he did out of his Gibson Les Paul until he had someone do some repair on it. It was discovered that his guitar was shipped with the pick-ups out of phase creating an unusual “off” vibration! Now, Gibson has released a Peter Green guitar with the pick-ups intentionally out of phase! Green was also a great guitarist because of his intensity. He would wait a split second to play a note which increased the tension. He would bend a deep note, hold it with vibration and blend it into a cascading climb that was incredibly cathartic. The man had four planets, including his Sun, in Scorpio with a Sag Venus. His playing was like the Buddhist symbol of the lotus arising from the depths of the darkness at the bottom of the swamp to express its expansive beauty. Truly sound healing.

Pleased to meet you all!

Samme,

Thanks again for posting the samples of the Solfeggio scale. Could you please tell me where you got those samples? Were they from a CD or from a website, or…?

I ordered the Solfeggio tuning forks and one of Jonathan Goldman's CD's “The Tantra of Sound” yesterday from Jonathan's site. I was going to get “Holy Harmony” but decided on the other CD when I sampled it.

The samples allowed me to test a recently purchased crystal bowl in E to see if it had any resonance with the Solfeggio notes…it didn't! I wasn't aware of the lack of correlation between the chakras and the western scale when I bought the bowl. When I began using it, I realized it had a fine tone, that it WAS in perfect pitch, but that it didn't move me. I was puzzled until I saw your post. Now, I need to find a use for that bowl!

I also bought a slider didg the same day that I saw your post. Actually, just hours before. I chose the slider after sampling close to a hundred different didges and comparing their sound to the E bowl and an old B-flat metal bowl I have. A C didg
“sounded” good with the E and B-flat bowls, but something still didn't feel right. So, I got the slider because I've always been drawn to bent notes and slides on a guitar. I'm glad I went with my gut on that decision. Now, I'll be able to mark the slider with the Solfeggio notes and experiment. I've already had some encouraging results toning with the samples you posted!

Many thanks, once again!

Love,

Meho

I would like to acknowledge first friends who have commented.  Thank you Taikunping, Rita, and new friend Muji.  For all you to know, Muji was just doing a search on music healing when he found this entry and decided to join us here at Gaia.  Please welcome him and invite him to be your friend if you wish so.
Hi Muji, thank you for being enthusiastic about the Aquarian Age as well.
I would like to find that book again by Hazrat Inayat Khan on music.  I have a book on India's musical theory and they are differences with western scale.  I too have a crystal bowl that resonate with the heart chakra.  I have a Tibetan bowl that is much smaller.  I have joined a toning circle before, a circle for women and I am the only male there and the only that they allowed to join.  : )
As to your question of the source or rather how I found out about it?  I stumbled upon it thru “Stumble Upon”.  I have a toolbar in my browser that when clicked gives you a random site, and mostly interesting sites.
I look forward to more of your comments and contributions here and at your blogs as I see that I have lots to learn from you and from everyone here.
lover of learning,
Samme

I would appreciate anyone’s input on some questions I have.

Does anyone have any experience with the free web software that allows for multi-track sound recording and editing, like Audacity?

Does anyone have any experience or opinions about frequency generating software, such as the one that generates the Solfeggio frequencies and allows someone to play them all at once and in “chants”? This software also claims to allow someone to connect the Solfeggio frequencies to the Schumann Wave. I find this curious because there is no playback equipment that can actually reproduce such a long wave. How could it possibly be FELT?! Or, would there be higher harmonics that come through? I tried contacting the company that sells this software, but my e-mail bounced back as a failed delivery. And, they post no phone number on their web site. I’m leary of buying the software since it’s merely a download, without knowing anything else about it beyond their claims on their web site.

Finally, has anyone tried to multi-track single frequencies in varied pulses and possibly combine that with either live healing instruments such as crystal bowls, tuning forks or a didg, or with music? I haveno idea how much computer memory one would need to do something like this. Any info would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance!

I use Sound Studio on a mac, but I have lots of experience of layering frequencies, and using FM Synthesis of modulating one frequency with another. I have been using these techniques since the early 1980s. I also use every accoustic source available to me.
I have enough information on Timbre to write a book, but I will not be writing the book as there is no interest.( I have a rough copy of my book on Harmony and melody from an outsider perspective which nobody wants to publish, and I have self published a book on rhythm and polyrhythm, which nobody will distribute).
Despite being on this group, I have severe reservations about some claims made about frequencies. And it is certainly true that long waves are not felt in the same way that higher frequencies are. It is also true that audio illusions can be created where we “hear” sounds that are not present. (the mind is a fickle organ)
(It is my belief that) Digital sounds do not contain the same spectrum of frequencies as natural sounds. Either artificial sounds are too “pure”, or the extra noise added to them to create the illusion of a natural sound is too regular. All natural sounds contain inconsistencies in the movement of overtones or additional noise which are not properly mimicked in artificial sounds.
The exciting area for me is the combination of controlled (artificial) sound and natural sound, since the variations of the natural impart an “organic” print onto the artificial.
As to the memory used, I regularly produce work longer than 40 minutes of the highest audio quality. If you think about it, 16 ten minute mono tracks (or 8 sterio tracks) take up no more room than a standard sterio cd.
Sorry I couldn’t be more help about software etc

Thanks much. I have the same reservations about digital sound and share your excitement about combining it with the organic. In fact, that was my “breakthrough” idea…an idea that broke through my resistance to using the digitally recorded work!

My aim is to create an undulation. That undulation doesn’t have to be organic because it simply gets people moving physically and that’s organic! It’s a vehicle for an organic experience.

I just downloaded Audacity and have to start playing with that before I can go any farther! It’s all a new adventure for me! Starting from scratch!

Meho -

I have been working with a variety of frequence generating software. CSound is the swiss army knife, capable of performing anything imaginable - and unimaginable, but the learning curve is steep! It can be a real PITA to get working, and I’ve tried everything else in software out of pure frustration - but csound can do the job.

I’ve made Schumann resonances by binaural beats, detuning left/right channel and listening through earphones.
For some years ago I was at a laboratory (at an institute for materials and vibration), where they had equipment for producing any frequency, and there I “listened” to the Schumann resonance. It was a strange experience because I could feel it (I was standing on the vibrating plate), while hearing absolutely nothing - so it was like a bigger silence. Kind if hard to explain :)
