My 1st Dive

davybuoy said Aug 15, 2008, 2:25 PM:

I sat cross legged (I am not flexible enough for the lotus or even half lotus position) my posture became poor, like someone leaning into a strong wind. I started by observing my breath, but quickly was distracted by thoughts of the future and past. I was more successful in being witness to these thoughts than in the past and did not become irritated, however I don't consider this to be due to the program. Simply I know more about meditation now.

I enjoyed the sounds except there was a definate change in the sounds of the bowls ~20-25 minutes in, I thought this was signalling the end and had to move to check my computer (I witnessed my lack of trust in myself here). I went back to the meditation as quickly as I could, I hope this will not have affected the entrainment! I will have the tracks on my MP3 player next time to remove the need to move.

I am committed to doing this again tomorrow,

Davybuoy

Hi:

You mentioned that you were going to put the tracks on your MP3 player, and just in case you are not aware, if you convert the tracks to MP3, you will lose the binaurals.  You can still use them on your MP3, but ensure that you use the highest byte-rate possible, in a lossless format - in other words copy them as straight dot-wav files - do not convert to something else.  The files will be quite large, so depending on how much you can put on your player, these may be the only files you can put on it.

Others with a more technical way of saying this might want to chime in here - I just know that converting to a MP3 makes it useless.

Depending on how much jostling around you did - if you physically got up out of your position, and moved around for several seconds, then you probably lost some entrainment.  If sitting cross-legged is uncomfortable, then you might just try sitting in a chair.  I know the instructions say you should sit up, but I've never been able to do that very much, preferring to use my lazy-boy in half-recline, and I get lots of benefit while remaining very comfortable.  The main thing is to be comfortable enough that you are not distracted by your body, while still remaining (as much as possible) awake, although at times you may find the program will pull you into a sleep-like state.  If that happens, you will suddenly notice that the sounds have stopped, probably within five minutes of them stopping, and you'll be back to normal again.

Great that you are committed to continuing!

Cheers!

Gemstar, you are a Gem. Thanks so much for posting about the MP3s. I had copied the CDs to my Ipod, because I missed the memo about this from Centerpointe. My poor old Ipod almost choked on the huge file., but I did go back and re-copy off the CD in a larger format.

Didn't know about the lossiness of MP3s and 4s, but it all makes sense now.

I too find the reclining position works best for me. I can meditate for 15 or 20 minutes sitting up, but a full hour is a bit much for me.
