Alex,

Don't worry. If you're using a lossless format then you're good.

Also, think about what they said about ripping and EEC. What they said is that if there is a minor flaw on the CD, it will be carried over onto the WAV file. Well, so what? That means that your WAV file is just as good as your CD, so you're not losing any quality by ripping it.

If you haven't been careless with your CD to the point that you can hear scratches, then you're fine.

Relax and enjoy your meditation. And look into whether your fear about the sound quality is a subtle form of resistance :)

Pelle

Hey deb *or anybody else knowledgeable on the subject* i see that you are offering help for people wanting to put the holosync onto their ipods. i am currently on awakening prologue and i started out using it on a cd player but recently switched to ipod. i transfered it to my ipod using a WAV format just like it says to do in CENTERPOINTE'S FAQ's, however i read in other threads that there are certain programs which don't give you the exact quality that the cd does even if you put it in an uncompressed file like WAV. They were talking mostly about itunes. Supposedly itunes does not guarantee a perfect "rip" from the cd like some digital music programs such as EEC ( i think that was the name of the digital music converter they said guranteed exact replicas of the cd's if done in WAV). They said the reason for this is that itunes doesn't notify you if there were small errors while ripping the cd (such as if the cd has a small scratch on it) where as programs like EEC will notify you about the error and try to correct it and if it can't, then it won't continue the rip. i happened to had used itunes for my rip, and although i used WAV format like it says to do in the centerpintes FAQS, i am worried that there could've been an error i wasn't informed of. When i listen to it on my ipod it sounds the exact same (from what i can tell) as when i listen to it on my cd player, i'm wondering though, could those errors maybe not be heard by the human ear? or do those errors that their talking about have to do will actually skipping and stuff like that. please note that the information i got was not from a holosync thread but just music in general on an ipod. i just want to make sure i'm not losing ANY effectiveness! please help! thanks a bunch!!!
-alex
ps sorry if this was confusing i typed it really fast

Thanks for the reply. I've been keeping it up for a past week, and now I'm able to keep counting my breaths up to 10 pretty much the whole way through. It must have just been the first day or two that made it so difficult to keep count. I'm starting CD 2 of AL1 tonight. It'll be my first experience with 1.5 Hz. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

"in the dive there is a periodic squawk that I can only describe as parrot like and really distracting."

Yeah, that used to bug me, too - eventually you find ways to distract yourself away from it, but it occasionally still fires up a response. That's where activating "The Witness" comes in handy - looking at your response and why you might be having it (other than pure esthetics of sound, of course). It actually is a very careless/clumbsy brush of the "bowl" that probably should have had a "retake" before it was incorporated as background. Whomever was doing the playing of the bowls needed more lessons, methinks.

Prologue was overwhelming in one sense as it seemed to fire up the monkey mind, I guess the mile a minute jabber made the time pass quickly and was kind of enjoyable. AL1 seems to provoke a more measured train of mind jabber, I guess that accounts for the different experience of time.

It's funny that the better technology produces a sound that seems more subdued and less real, also in the dive there is a periodic squawk that I can only describe as parrot like and really distracting.

Depending on how long you've been listening to the particular disk you've been on, it can mean a couple of things:
1) If you've been listening for at least 6 weeks, you may be ready to move forward to the next disc, provided you meet the other criteria outlined in the program.
2) Boredom may also be a sign that you are in some form of resistance, but not necessarily overwhelm. It's an escape mechanism. It means the program IS working, and you may need to just work your way through it - find a focus like watching your breath, or just really listening to the rain with a new appreciation of it. ;) The more antsy you feel, the more you probably need to just stick with it.

Cheers!
Gem

My AL1 sessions seem to last so long it really pains me, compared to the Prologue. I know they are both an hour long but it is so hard to sit with AL1 without peeking at the clock during the session, both during the dive and Immersion.

This is very normal. My suggestion for when you are moving into Immersion is to just relax and listen. It's OK if the mind wanders or you day-dream or maybe even occasionally nod off. Struggling to keep up counting is counter-productive at that point, because your mind will be entering levels where it would normally have you asleep. What I sometimes do to maintain a focus, rather than count breathes, is just to focus on the breath moving in and out through the nose.

Gem

I've been in Awakening Level 1 (AL1) for about six weeks now, and the in the latest support letter, Bill says we can accelerate results by counting breaths in and out from 1 to 10. I thought it'd be easy to do. When I tried to do it the past couple days, I found that I could count easily during the dive, but when I switched to immersion, it became more and more difficult to keep my count. Sometimes I couldn't get past "2" before losing count. Is this normal? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks

I am now on level 9 of LifeFlow (9 Hz). I still find it more of a distraction than a help toward meditation, but then again the same is even more true for Holosync (which I still use in the morning to wake up).

The 9Hz track seems closer to the normal state of my brain when meditating silently, but still not there. Perhaps next time? I will see if I can keep you updated. The price is insigificant by Norwegian standards, so I will probably continue to subscribe all the way through even if it ends up to be just out of curiosity.

That's my understanding too, especially when the target frequency is far from normal waking frequencies. At LifeFlow they argue that the brain can't entrain properly to a moving target, and that it takes 8 minutes at one steady frequency for entrainment to occur. In my own testing this modality works just fine for alpha and high theta sessions, but I haven't gone lower than about 7.8hz with those. Like I wrote previously, I'm curious about how the lower LifeFlow levels work, seeing as their final level is supposed to entrain to around 1hz without any ramping at all.

It has been my understanding that "ramping" as it's called is necessary to gradually coax the current brain wave state into the desired brain wave state. Is this not true?

Yep, as in any soundtrack where the target frequency goes progressively up or down. Technically, the Holosync Dive soundtracks 'step' down by small increments, but essentially I'd still call this ramping.
LifeFlow doesn't ramp i.e. the target frequency stays the same for the length of the soundtrack.
Ken
