Can't sit still...

Jeff said Jun 20, 2008, 3:14 AM:

Been doing Holosync for about a year now, and there are some interesting things I'm just now beginning to notice.

I can't sit still!! This has been something I've noticed from the beginning, and I'm curious to know if others have trouble remaining still for an hour. Some days I can sit in burmese posture for an hour no problem.  I've read accounts of zazen which talk about not moving a muscle for long periods of time. Although I don't think this limitation is necessarily a problem, it is interesting to me, and I wonder if it's purely a physical discomfort thing, or something else.

Second, it's really hard to keep track of my breath. Not that this is a goal of Holosync, but it's something I've been experimenting with lately.  Today, for example, I think I was able to count my breaths up to about 21 or 22, then I lost track.  I usually lose track before I get to 10.  I don't know why I started trying to count lately, but now I'm fascinated with the fact that I lose track so quickly.

I heard Ken Wilber say recently that if he were going to give someone instructions about reaching a higher stage of development, he would tell them to start counting their breath, and get back to him in 5 years.  It's amazing how different everything looks from this perspective!!

Hi Jeff.
I haven't been using holosync for as long as you, I'm a few months behind, but I get the 'can't sit still' feeling sometimes too. From what I can gather this is because your central nervous system is being pushed on, or some unconscious stuff is coming up. You should try and just watch this happen & let it be. I try this and it works to a degree, trying not to put any resistance against what is happening. Sometimes I just turn off the cd & let my mind/body calm down & come back to holosync again the next day.

As for counting my breath, I do this quite often with holosync and it sometimes helps with the 'can't sit still' feelings too. I learnt how to mediate at a buddhist compassion centre near me & they taught me a few techniques for mediation that I find very useful to use with holosync.
The breathing technique was to count to 21, going up with every breath cycle, then come back down from 21 to 0, slowing your breath down very slowly with each cycle. I find this impossible to do during the dive, as the brain is going deeper into its brain waves and your state is in flux, but very affective at the beginning of immersion. I don't always get it straight away & it may take nearly the full half an hour before I've done it, but when I hit 0 I get the whole empty mind bodiless state thing which feels great.

I hope this helps you out at all.

Peace & Blessings
Matt
