Headphones for the holosync

seagull said Aug 18, 2008, 7:34 PM:

Hello All,

First of all, thanks for your input. I was thinking of buying holosync and this discussion helped me decide. Now I am wondering if there are some kind of stereo headphones that are more suitable for this. Have any of you experimented with this? I would appreciate your input.

Thanks!

For the Awakening Prologue any head phones will do, for later levels you need better quality headphones. Centerpointe offer some (Sony MDR-V600) for sale and after a quick check on the net they seem like a reasonable deal if you live in the US or Canada and only pay the lower shipping costs.

I am using a pair of Sennhieser PXC 250s as these are the best quality headphones I have, they are noise canceling phones so I have to make sure that function is turned OFF (read that somewhere in this useful group).

Cheers,

Davybuoy

This is the official answer from Centerpointe:

Up until Awakening Level 4, any stereo headphones you choose to use will suffice.  At that time, headphones that go down to at least 10Hz are necessary; then at Flowering Level 3 ones that go down to at least 6Hz are needed; 5Hz is preferred.  The upper end frequency does not matter.  If you plan on going through the whole program, you can upgrade to the 6Hz (or lower) at Awakening Level 4.

The same specifications apply to earbuds (“sports-style”) and noise-cancelling headphones as well.

Blessings,
Hae

Hi Seagull!

In response to the earphones question, here's something I also learned about MP3's.  (It's been discussed elsewhere on the forum, but I think it's good to mention it again here.)  If you decide to copy the tracks from CD to a portable device like an iPod, make sure you copy it into a lossless format, such as .wav.  Since those devices are designed to let you carry as much music as possible, they allow you to do so by compressing the files.  The compression process takes tones that are “similar” or “too quiet” (this is a huge simplification) and discards them, making the file smaller.  Holosync technology depends on exactly such tones to trigger a change in brainwaves, two soundwaves that are less than 16 Hz apart, I believe.  So compression probably makes the file useless.

I didn't know this when I first got the demo, and I copied it to my iPod as an .mp3, and wasn't impressed.  Then I read the info on compression, recopied the track as a .wav, and noticed an immediate difference. =)

Blessings,
Elizabeth

Hello all,

Thank you very much for the input.

Hae and Davybuoy, I looked at the sony MDR V600 headphones, but according to the reviews on amazon the MDR V6 model is actually better and has the same frequency range (5 - 30,000Hz). So I got those and they are really good. I need only a quarter of the volume to get the same sound quality when compared to my older headphones.

Elizabeth, thanks for the info about not using mp3. I was actually about to do that, but now I am using .wav format. So I hope that way I am getting the full benefit.

Thanks again!

D.

I'm really curious about this MP3 thing - I ordered the program and have been using it on my Ipod for about 4 months now.

I called the Center and asked, and they said for Awakening its fine.  So now I'm just wondering whether I should switch to a portable CD player…

I've just ordered the 2nd section, and I was wondering if I'd know when I was ready - well, I do know I'm ready now.  It's funny - all of a sudden. I'm just trying to get my affirmations together.

Some of the suggested ones are great, but I want to do some of my own that are more tailored to my specific spirit as well.

Anybody have experience with starting out on IPOD and then switching over to a CD player?

Thanks
Lynn

Hi Lynn,

From what Elizabeth said and from what I have read in other places, you can use the .wav format. I hope ipod accepts this format.

Has anyone experimented with the apple lossless format? I would like to hear the opinions of the more experienced people here.

Best,
D.

As you have requested opinions from more experienced people here, I would suggest reading this post first, and then scroll down in that thread for my own comments regarding equipment.

You will get the best audio experience from using the original CD.  If you must use an IPOD, then you need to convert from the CD to a lossless format (as explained in the above noted thread).  For the lower levels it works fine, but you may find when you move to AL4 and above, that most IPODs just don't have the range capability of good CD players (not portable CD players) when using the upgraded head-phones necessary to accomodate the binaurals in AL4 and beyond.

I also have a theory that a lot of the extra overwhelm people experience when moving into AL4, after having used portable CD players and IPODs for the lower levels, is because they didn't get all the ”juice” out of the lower levels first, because the equipment couldn't reproduce all of it.  Because AL4 seems to jump down quite a bit from AL3 with regards to carrier as well, this then really puts a major push on the brain.  After discovering the difference myself, as explained in that other thread, I repeated AL3 to some extent (spent an extra 2 months on it), and then sailed through AL4 with no problems at all.

These are my findings.  Others may have had different experiences.

Hi Andrew,

Welcome to the pod!

As far as I know you can use any headphones for the prologue.
