Neurological illnesses and Holosync?

Kachina said Aug 26, 2008, 7:18 AM:

Hi,
This is going to be a bit long, sorry- I hope you can bear with me! :0)

I am a fully qualified 3rd degree Reiki Master/Teacher, and I have also undergone more than 4 years of in depth Therapy because I was subjected to severe mental and emotional abuse as a child; During my 4plus years of Therapy of course my issues came up to be integrated whcih was often painful and I eventually reached a degree of insight and self-knowledge which changed my life.

Plus, later, I have also had to cope with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/CFS for the past 12 years-basically this means that since my last relapse I have to use a power wheelchair, I have not been able to do my work as a Reiki practitioner or Teacher (although I do practice modified Reiki healing techniques on myself daily) and have to spend at least 80% of my day in rest and relaxation. It is important that you understand that this complicated illness is not at all about “tiredness or depression' which is the commonest misconception, but it is in fact a Neurological disorder (brain illness) where the cycle of  'over” activity=overproduction of “Cytokines”=further brain damage worsening of the illness and setbacks.
Sometimes it is only the smallest effort, physical or mental, which can lead to this vicious circle, causing (amongst other things) malfunction of the hypothalamus/autonomic system, debilitating flu like illness and permanent brain damage, constant muscle and joint pain, and cognitive difficulties (problems with thinking).
Persons with this illness have to stick to a careful “pacing routine” where all activities both mental and physicalhave to be very carefully restriced and monitored.
I must stress that the common belief that M.E. is “tiredness, depression, mental illness, malingering”   is only an unfortunate myth; which has been disproved by current scientific research findings and yes this IS the view of my medical Specialist.
But of course this means that I cant ask anyone at Holosync for advice about my illness because they would have to be M.E. specialists to understand how it might affect my illness.
So its kind of complicated.. Yes?

Later in response to acquiring  M.E. I undertook more than two years of regular natural therapies such as Healing, Homoepathy, Aromatherapy, Kineseiology, Reflexology and massage, and my condition went from having been to all purposes bedridden for nearly 2 years- to working two hours a week as a receptionist in a Natural Therapy Centre where I read every single book in their library and became a keen student of all things New Age. After 18 months I was able to walk to and from work  without any adverse affects and go on my first holiday for 3 years.

It was at this time that I decided to do my first  degree Reiki attunement, with its subsequent “Integration period” of 21 days where issues come up to be healed. Later after my second degree attunement there was an integration period of 3 months. The following year I was deemed ready for my final 3 rd degree master/teachers attunement with an integration period of at least one year, during all of these integration periods one deals with resistances, childhood issues adult issues and in the case of the master/teacher level, even soul and past life issues are healed.
After 2 years my M.E. improved so much that I thought I had been cured, but during the course of the following two years I stopped taking care of myself and went back to some of my old habits (overwork/poor diet/alcohol/smoking) and of course eventually had a full relapse some 5 years ago now.

I must stress that I dont expect the Holosync programm to “cure” my M.E.. Currently there are no cures, but with a stress free lifestyle, adherence to strict activity management , some level of temporary improvement is possible although entirely dependant on sticking to the activity management approach.

In fact I have embarked on the Holosync programme purely to improve my meditation and contact with 'Source'; and perhaps hope for some lessening of cognitive difficulties and to ensure that my stress levels remain low.

I am now in my first week of “immersion” ( I use a personal CD player with some good headphones) but I am finding it hard going with the M.E. symptoms.
This is why I was careful to stick to the dive only for the first 14 days-I have to be very watchful because with my condition, mental exertion is always going to cause setbacks and if I push it too much it could have a counterproductive effect, ie: cause more brain damage!.
The first time I tried immersion  I did it during the day I had a bad reaction to it, but because I find that I tend to sleep during most of the Immersion section and fall asleep afterwards, now I am doing it last thing at night, so I can sleep afterwards and recover (before I have my daily struggle to survive to cope with) Then In the morning I start my day with “change made easy' to assist the integration.
Of course I have had some “stuff” coming up, so its apparent that there are still issues left that I havent been fully integrated yet, that is fine.

The main thing for me then, is that I have to be very careful not to push my brain too hard because of the M.E. reaction…

I am coping so far, just so long as I do my meditation last thing at night, but if I get too many days like yesterday-when I “crashed” (ie went Hypersomnic) for 10 hours during the daytime-I may have to slow it down to every other day or even less.

So my question is, if you are still awake:
Has has anyone got any comments or advice for me or has anyone else here had any experiences of using Holosync with a Neurological illness?

Hello Kachina:

Welcome to the Holosync group/pod, and since you are also new here at Gaia, I'd like to extend a welcome to the whole of Gaia as well.

While I haven't had any direct experience with CFS, I have done some reading on it in relation to my own work as a Hypnotist, so I realize you have quite a few challenges in being able to do something to help yourself, without pushing yourself too hard, physically or mentally.  Reducing stress is good, though, and one of the things that is recommended by the medical community is meditation.

Please do not discount that the people of Centerpointe would be able to at least give you some guidance;  they have quite a number of very well qualified persons on staff, and if you specifically stress that you need to speak with someone with more indepth knowledge, I'm sure they'll do their best to help (ask to speak with one of the more seasoned support associates).

What I can suggest is that perhaps listening to the full Dive/Immersion and also listening to “Making Change Easy” might be pushing your brain too much, if done within the same 24 hour period.  The Holosync on MCE is a quite a bit stronger than on the initial Awakening Prologue level.  Your “crash” could have been caused from an over-production of Serotonin (which Holosync does tend to increase), while the tendencies of CFS is for there not to be enough capacity in the brain to handle these.  It is usually a cummulative effect that is generally not immediately recognized.  Prolonged need for sleep would be the response of the brain attempting to right itself, after reaching a point of non-absorption.  So my suggestion would be to alternate using MCE with the regular Holosync program.  There is no rush involved here - no necessity to push yourself - just a “steady as you can” attitude will work best.  Over time, the Holosync will increase the number of neuro-pathways in the brain (which is how it then handles greater stress), and your capacity to handle the input will also increase.

One other area that you may find does improve (other than stress) is memory function, which I understand is also affected by CFS.

If you haven't already received the book ”Thresholds of the Mind” it will probably arrive sometime in the next month or so - this is a book that Bill Harris wrote that I have found immensely helpful in understanding how Holosync works.  It also provides several testimonials of people suffering from different dibilitating conditions that have found Holosync has benefitted them.  Because you do know so much about your condition, you will probably be able to relate to how this is possible.  In the meantime, I also suggest that you may want to explore the large amount of material on the CRI web-site itself, to help you further understand how Holosync might work with this condition.  Just don't push yourself to do it all at once.

Again, welcome and please do continue to ask questions and/or provide your feedback on how you are coping with Holosync.

Be well!

Gem

Thanks Gem for getting back to me so quickly,

I have now sent an email (I am in UK so phone calls would prove expensive) to Holosync support with a modified version of the above post,  and since reading your brilliant response I am far more positive about whether they will be able to advise me.

Thank you very much indeed for sharing your ideas, I am delighted by your insight and wisdom.

I hadnt realised that the “change” CD was more powerful than “immersion”;  I imagined it was  something gentle, without the same kind of “brain work” involved at all, but this explains a lot, and since, given the years of integration I have already undergone through Therapy and Reiki,  perhaps my difficulties are more likely to be M.E/CFS related rather than with integration so much, and this I do know how to handle.

I must say I had greatly underestimated how powerful these sessions are, and as you say -its not a race…..

after hearing your sensible thoughts I will slow it down a bit, definitely take the “day off” tomorrow
and then see what happens if use the “dive/immersion'”every other day, and then the “change” CD every fourth day would probably be enough, also giving me a day off entirely once every four days…

always pacing… holding myself back-I should be used to it by now!

I suspect now, that the Holosync advisers may come up with a similar idea…. I will let you know what they say once they get back to me.

I have received the book you mentioned too, and will look out for the specific references to other peoples experiences who have debilitating illnesses

thanks again

Dear Gem

I received the email response from Centerpointe today, very dissaponting  indeed, I dont think that they bothered to read or understand my email at all, in fact.

person responding is under the impression that I have a mental illness!!

person says they are not medically trained so cant help me.

then person has advised to use the program as directed,

person has not mentioned “change made easy” at all

(this is very rash advice indeed)

So I was right to think that I wouldnt get any support from them, thank goodness I spoke to you first Gem!

Hi Kachina:

I am very disappointed as well - I know there are people there at CRI who could have handled this better.

I have sent you a PM through your Gaia mail on possible next steps.

Blessings!
