Welcome tae the Tavern in the Twilight

Súigh Dílis [no longer around] said Feb 6, 1:26 PM:

As you step into the tavern, out of the cold and rain, the patrons turn their gaze from their tables and their drinks to look at you with smiles.  It is warm here, a fireplace standing proudly in one wall, and a well-stocked bar sticking out of the wall paralell to it.  The whole place is torch-lit, yet bright with both the grins of the patrons and the fireplace.

There is a staircase against another wall, leading to a balcony with several doors leading to what can be assumed to be inn rooms.  Underneath the staircase is another doorway, without a door.  Inside you can see it is very dimly lit, by candles and a sweet, peaceful aroma drifts out of it.

As you stand admiring the scenery and atmosphere of the place, a tall man strides up to you, extending his hand in friendship.  He speaks to you, in a bright and cheery tone, “‘allo there!  I’m yer barkeep.  M’name’s Kyle.  Ye look cold.  Come in an’ dry yerself off.  ’ave a drink as well lad/lass, it be on teh ‘ouse.”  He shoves a flagon in your hand and motions to an empty table near the fireplace, “Now set yerself over by teh fire thar’n be tellin’ us a bit about yerself.”

“What?  Yer wantin’ tae know a bit about meself first?” he says with a wry grin before thinking a moment, “Alright, ‘ere goes then…”

“It were a long time ago, ‘n’ I were jes’ a wee boy…………”

No… That’s a story for another time…  Hello, I am Kyle.  I am your host here at the tavern.  I was born and raised in the city of Thousand Oaks in sunny Southern California.  Was a boyscout, played tons of sports and was lucky to have access to a lot of nature.

I grew up reading my mother’s veneritable library of science fiction and fantasy novels.  As such, I grew up with a great passion for stories of magic and bravery, love and passion, sorrow and beauty.  I suppose that’s why I feel compelled to open this here establishment for you all.

As for you…  you have your own reason for seeking shelter here, and I ask you, take a moment to share about yourself.

Gladly, young lad
Do I venture here
And join the others
In tea - not ale beer!

Now I could tell ye about the time I wielded the light saber…But let me first doff my wet armor and find some mates to sit with.

Host! A jar of that hot black brew, if ye will

Welcome, welcome milady.

He nods respectfully at the latest patron of his establishment.

Ye'll be findin' a rack near the door to be a'leavin' yer coats.  There be not many 'ere yet, but lodging be cheap and so is the cheer.  In more than just liquid form I may add.  Lemme rustle up a bit o' tea to take the edge off.

Walking through a door behind the bar, he fires up the stove, placing a teapot of water gathered from the local river onto it, whistling.  Soon, the kettle is singing along with him and he pours it's heated contents out into a dainty cup, a fine black tea from a far off land steeping in it.  Returning to the room, he sets down the teaglass at the table Meenakshi has sat down at with a nod and walks outside, scanning the horizon for any more potential arrivals.

Methinks mayhap a trip to The Temple is in order!
Shouting out to the tavernkeeper scanning said horizon:
Is the water safe to drink, lad?

He hollars over his shoulder,

The best of ways tae be gettin' holy water be tae boil the 'ell out of it, aye lass?  I kin assure ye it's quite safe.  We brew our own spirits 'ere as well using the same water.  It been strained through cloth and boiled once a'fore this.

I love the world of nature and am keen to write a little verse and capture a few pictures of this fine english countryside which offers me such a good and comfortable home.

May I please have a wee dram of port to warm the cockles

Well, things are looking up around here with all these lovely ladies sipping tea. I found a lost lady with a sad tale to tell, but with humour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WALIARHHLII&NR=1
She too will steer clear of the alcohol, thanks

Thanks for the warm welcome!  I see a couple of my friends over there now!  Since it is twilight, how about a shot of Bailey's Caramel Irish Cream on a rock (only one ice cube, please!)?  Forgive me, I don't speak 'Renaissance' very well, but I'm looking forward to hearing some tales!  Was just telling my husband about this tavern so now he's playing RenRadio and has decided we're going back to King Richard's Faire in the fall.

A crackling log fire to warm your hands
A whole dram of port to offer support!

A group of friends to help you while away the hours
Lots of jokes to make you laugh, and bawdy ballads!

Tales of lovers, linked by the heart
Woodland walks and lots of small talk

Welcome welcome everyone.  It's a lot of effort keeping up that accent…  Methinks I'll drop it for the most part.  Maybe I'll be inspired to post more…  Hehehehehe…  I've been takin' care o' me sick gran'mum, so you can understand why I've been a tad bit absent.  I'm formulating some ideas to get this place bustling with business.  So just sit back and relax.  We're not quite expecting large amounts of patronage yet although I can forsee this place being very fun as more people discover it.  =)

Oy…
Great to be indoors folks and such a warm and hearty welcome.
Me? Nothing to bother about, just a traveler looking for some ale and a meal and good company - that stinking bear (not to worry he's perfectly tame) over in the corner isn't the talkative type if you get my drift, so company is much appreciated.

D'ye hae any good stories for us, traveler?

Nah, no wild streak here, just the need for a traveling companion of the fiercer sort, is all, but mind you I had to save his hide first. Ain't as wild it turned out :::chuckles:::

Someone make sure to keep that ale coming and there might be  a tale or two, hehe…:::moves toward the Fireplace:::

Which dish on the menu would you delight in today, we have a fine selection of broth and many a fine drink to quench your thirst….Another log on the fire…..
In this fine establishment we welcome one another and make ourselves at home.  The landlord is just in the back room cookin' up some splendid meals to celebrate  the opening of the Tavern, he won't be long…  Just saw him then, he's finished the meals and is bringing in a keg of his finest Ale..Make yourself at home…

Kyle comes out of the back room, lugging a large barrel, tilted backwards to carry it's large weight.  Tilting forward, he eases it to the floor with a heavy thud.  He takes a cloth out of his pocket and wipes his forehead with it, before noticing a bear of a man…  and a bear, standing by the fireplace, telling a rousing story.  Resting his elbow on the keg, he leans against it and listens to the newcomer's tale.

As I enter the twilight zone again ,
for the night is creeping in-
I cannot help but wonder if tis the bear telling the tale or the manbear?

Never mind for I shall listen -as long as there be no growling here!

Yes strange and sad that Master Kyle has left our shores,
no longer to provide the welcome he promised us?

Perhaps he has gone to start a tavern in a new land,
shame we did not have the chance for one last big night
of farwell for him.

I shall post a toast to his well being :)
